The first bathtub installed in the United States was installed in Cincinnati, Ohio, home in 1842. It was made of mahogany and was lined with sheet metal.

wouldnt it get dangerous and cut someone if it corroded or something?

Rust is no more nasty than steel, if you cut yourself with one or the other it hurts and you bleed.

Rusty metal is often nasty because it is contaminated with nasty bacteria in the water it has lain in and when you get cut some of the rust stays in the body...thus infection sets in.

Rust in and of itself is harmless.

However Tin baths...as this no doubt was....DON'T rust because tin does not corrode in water.

(Well it does but it is very very very very very slow)
