Well, I think they were pretty much they way they sound -- Egyptian was really in vogue, so rich people would collect a mummy from Egypt and then have a fancy Egyptian themed party which would culminate in the actual unwrapping of the poor guy. Any of the charms and things hidden in the wrappings were given as party favours, and after the mummy was unwrapped it was usually burned.

I would have incorporated it into the hors d'oeuvres. Burning seems like such a waste.
