Maureen Faibish, the owner of two pit bulls that attacked and killed Faibish's 12-year-old son in June in San Francisco while he was home alone (after Faibish had ordered him to stay away from the dogs and shut him in a room), denied that she was in any way responsible for little Nicholas' death. "It (was) Nicky's time to go," she told the San Francisco Chronicle. "When you're born, you're destined to go, and this was his time." [CNN-AP, 6-12-05]

There's been loads of blog posts on this. Here's one (I hope you don't mind - delete this comment if you do):
http://www.livejournal.com/users/opalcat/1894353.html

Here's some extracts from this post that say it all, with my comments:

Ella and Rex II were "family dogs," Faibish said. They spent most of their time inside the house, slept in bed with the children every night and woke Maureen Faibish up every morning by licking her face. Ella was trained to lick her makeup off and kiss her ear.

-This is exactly how some dog owners let their pets own them. By treating them as other humans, not dogs, and placing the dog's needs ahead of their own and their families, the dog thinks it's the boss. Compounding this irresponsiblity with an aggressive breed increases the chances of this kind of tragedy occuring.

"Even after the whole thing," she said, "I'm not mad at my dogs. I just love them to death."

"The police killed the wrong dog if you ask me," Faibish said.

-Too true! But all that seems to have happened is that she was charged with child endangerment to which she pleaded not guilty. There doesn't seem to be an outcome yet.

With this woman showing so little remorse - I haven't actually seen any at all - I can think of no more fitting punishment than for her to be put in her son's position.

See, this was in fact the very first I heard about it. Thank you for giving more details.

-- And perosnally I don't think that there's ANYTHING wrong with making your pets part of the family.. but there had to be some sort of inkling that these were aggressive animals. Family pets just don't kill a twelve year old boy on a whim. That's twisted.

And that woman most definitely needs to be fed to some very hungry pitbulls.

thats sick. people like that make me sick. considering a pets feelings / well being is fine but to place them above a person-- your own daughter! no.

Well, that's ridiculous. You never put the needs of your pets over your child. If so, then you shouldn't have children. You should only have pets.

I assumed that wasn't the only ingredient in the recipe. :)
