My dad went to catholic school in Europe about 60 years ago, and the thing he remembers most about the whole experience is the nuns telling him and the other children that chewing gum is made from the corpses of soldiers who died in the war. For a four year old with a mouthful of gum I think it was a bit traumatic...
Haha... the day I made my journal was the same day that my mother gave me about 5 cookbooks from the '70s that she got at a yard sale. It reminded me of them -- so kitsch. I think it is supposed to be a cherry cappuccino cake.
I love older cook books. I have like... five big old cook books. I also love my "Old West" cook book. :P It's alot of wild foods to cook, all sorts of birds, deer, bear, etc. But the desserts are the funnest to read about how to make them and all the ingrediants. :D
I love to cook, I just wish I was a bit better at it. >.<"
I know that my Mom's boyfriend when I was a kid after my parents split got caught chewing gum by the Nuns and they made him put 3 full packs of gum and chew it ALL dya long. Apparently he was sobbing after about an hour and they'd hit him whenever he stopped chewing.
