The bagpipe, the national instrument of Scotland, did not originate in Scotland. Bagpipes were known in Persia in ancient times, and actually their antiquity has been traced back to ancient Mesopotamia.

Haha. ;) Most people hate the bagpipes.

I know a girl who wanted violins and bagpipes at her wedding.

The combination.

Umm. OWW!

Some classify them as an ill woodwind than no one blows good...

On the other hand, some years ago I witnessed two pipe bands practising for some Highland Pipe Band Jamboree (or whatever they call them). They were on opposite sides of our city square & playing different tunes at the same time. This incredible aural & visual spectacle blew me away - somehow it was a really transcendent experience.

It is beautiful. I've been to a Renaissaince festival where they have had it before, and it's just an amazing sight.

So did Scottish people steal the idea somehow? Or did they each develop it alone?

I had to read this thing for English once that told a story similar to Noah's ark, and had origins in Mesopotamia. Or something.

I seriously don't know.

I suppose I could look it up, but the motivation is simply not that strong.
