It doesn't. They're just pretentious bastards. It's pronounced Cran. Like Cranberry without the berry... not Cray(fish) - an(them). Big stupids. *nod*

Actually...

It is pronounced cray-on hence the spelling crayon. Although my brother-in-law pronounces it crown. I laugh at him, but mostly just because he is silly.

Re: Actually...

It's cran. There's lots of words that are spelled differently then they're pronounced. What about child?

Re: Actually...

Well there are many words that don't make sense i.e. stomach ache and moustache.

Mostly I just love bugging my brother-in-law. There is a town in Kansas pronounced el dooraydo, I bug him that it should be pronounced el doorahdo. Spelled of course El Dorado. He tells me that it is in Kansas and that is the way it should be pronounced. He also mentiones that it is not the lost city of gold. My argument back is that it is a spanish word and should be pronounced as such. He is a lot of fun to tease. Even if he does call me fat. (He teases that I have "extra insulation". My fault I started it. It is funny too.)

Re: Actually...

That's my issue with sports teams. It's Noh- tra - dahm. Not Note-er - Dayme. Grrr.... People are silly.

And extra insulation is particularly helpful in winter, I find.

Re: Actually...

Most definately. I've actually complained of the heat this winter. Of course Seattle is almost having the warmest winter in the country right now.

Yeah, it's pretty chilly here in the midwest. I'm glad for all this baby-fat.

Re: Actually...

I don't. ;) That's why I didn't say Ohio or Minnesota or Wisconsin or something.

Besides... I could be a carnie.. travelling with the circus...

Re: Actually...

Hmmm, I just don't picture you from your posts being a single mother traveling the midwest with the circus. Although if you are the contortionist, let me know when you travel to the Seattle area. ;)

I forgot about the clown issue. Can you prove I've never seen them? Certified cynic, proof required.

Proof is in the pudding. Or video or photos... In other words, I'll beleive it when I see it.

Heh. Two of my children pronounce it with one syllable, like "crown".
