In Colonial America, water pipes were not made of metal, but bored out logs. Not surprisingly, they were often infested with insects and left water with a “woody” taste.

In England we used to have lead water pipes, that was not good for the mortality rate either, oh and they used to have it in paint too, especially the stuff that babies cots were painted with!
