Producers announced in February that they were still planning to bring the three-year-old London stage show, "Jerry Springer, The Opera" to America in early 2006, despite increasingly vituperative protests of religious groups. The show features "Jerry" mediating confessions in Hell between Satan, God, Jesus, Mary, and various Biblical characters, complete with a raucous audience periodically chanting "Jer-ree! Jer-ree!" Reportedly, 300 to several thousand curse words are in the script (depending on who counts), and the show's Jesus is a pudgy, diaper-wearing gay man who is apparently coprophilic (among the many alleged points of blasphemy). When the BBC televised a showing, it reported 50,000 complaints, with some physical threats directed to the station's staff and their families.

I kind of thought it would go that way.

Was it really opera, or was it like musical theatre-y?

It really was opera. They were all trained opera singers, and it was amusing to hear them all going 'fuuuucckk, fuuuckk ' in a massive opera chorus, but it gets tedious after a while. I'm sure you could get the CD of it somewhere and have a listen.

I don't know if I'd want to buy it and something tells me the local library wouldn't carry it. lol. I bet it was funny for like the first ten minutes, but I can definitely see how that could geet old real fast.

Yeah, you're right. But I will say this, it did not go out to make fun of religion, it was a satire of the human condition.

That's cool. I kind of got that feeling about it.

If you really want to hear some of it I am sure my son has it on computer and he could send you some.
Want to give me your email in a 'for your eyes only' post?
