Wow, that's actually really amazing and interesting if you know anything about Guinea Pigs. Guinea pigs will actually pick a mate for life sometimes, they are also one of the few small fuzzies who actually assist with the birth, and help raise the children with little fear that they will kill them. Even more amazing about this story, however, if the number he got pregnant!!! Guinea pigs only have 2-6 babies on a normal litter, so he must've gotten them all pregnant... and female guinea pigs have this barrier over their private parts that prevent pregnancy except for 1-2 days per month. In order for Sooty to impregnate all those females he would've had to planned his escape at the exact moment that they were all in heat. Actually, he probably smelled them, and that prompted his escape.
Whatever, it's a really interesting story for those of us who have mated guinea pigs!
And now... a fun guinea pig mating story:
After many misfortunately events with hamsters, I decided that my 12 year old self needed a more durable pet. Well, Guinea Pigs are pretty durable. My parents agreed, and for my birthday I got my guinea pig Mica (a girl). She was fun. So affectionate... more so than my hamsters had ever been.
Anyway, I read online that guinea pigs are communal animals, and prefer living with another one if they don't get enough attention from their owners. Well, I was in school most of the time, and in a bunch of after school activities, so I decided Mica needed a friend. My parents agreed, and for Easter I got Gizmo, also a little girl.
Now fast forward to Hockey Camp in July. My cousins are visiting for the camp, and one cousin (Dan) asks me when Gizzy is going to have her babies. I'm like "Gizzy's not pregnant! Both my guinea pigs are girls!". Then Dan picks up Mica, flip her over, and shows me "her" penis. Hum.
Mom and Dad agree (they agree with me a lot)... Mica is a boy. Oh boy. So, I go online to figure out what to do now. Only, this was back when a Yahoo! search would yeild only 5-10 matches, and none of them helped me at all. I had no idea what to expect, OR when she would give birth.
Fast forward to a week later. I was at an audition, my brother was working, and my parents were in the city buying another cage in which to move Mica into. I return from my audition and realize that Mica and Gizzy are acting weird, and looking at me all suspiciously. Upon further inspection I discover two little balls of fluff under their bottoms. Gizzy had two babies! Yay!
Well, being the semi-intelligent person that I am, I separated them right away, playing with Mica for a bit, and then putting him in the bathtub until my parents returned. AT MOST Gizzy and Mica were together for an hour after giving birth... but guess what? GIZZY WAS PREGANT AGAIN! 5 months and 6 babies later I finally ended my guinea pig mating fiasco. 9 guinea pigs total in the end. I kept four (two male, two female). What great fun.
Nah, you all got it wrong... Sooty was tired becasue he did all that escaping and tunelling, remember?
Then the girls lined up and JUMPED HIM...obviously, I mean they wanted babies...their biological clocks were ticking; no man in sight all their lives....simple!
