Carrots used to come in many different colors. They were purple, red, white, and yellow. Some believe they were green and black. Popular belief is that in the 16th century a Dutch scientist decided to adapt the carrot to the orange color we are familiar with today. He cross bred a red carrot with a pale yellow carrot to make this orange colored vegetable. Because the Dutch national color was orange, the scientist created the orange carrot to make a "royal" vegetable. -- Adapted from this: http://www.firstjuice.com/about_pc.html
How to talk your way out of a speeding ticket. Though none of you ever speed, right?
on the new york state thru-way if you don't do at least 75 you'll be passed like nobody's buisness, though most do 85, meanwhile the speed limit is 65.
Eep! That's reeeeally fast.
yeah, but you get used to it. Also I hardly ever see an accident, which is interesting, but when you do, oh man talk about smoldering wrecks!
I bet. :( Oh that's scary.
Heh, another interesting fact about Carrots from Wikipedia
The urban legend that says eating large amounts of carrots will allow one to see in the dark developed from stories of British gunners in World War II who were able to shoot down German planes in the darkness of night. The legend arose during the Battle of Britain when the RAF circulated a story about their pilots' carrot consumption as an attempt to cover up the discovery and effective use of radar technologies in engaging enemy planes. It reinforced existing German folklore and helped to encourage Britons—looking to improve their night vision during the blackouts—to grow and eat the vegetable.
that's pretty cool! i know [firsthand] that eating a lot of carrots will tint you slightly orange .. but that's about it
I was worried about my son when he was a baby. He loooooved carrots and wnated to eat them all the time. haha. ;) I was like "Is he going to change color?"
Really?! I want to cook purple carrots!
Yeah, I speed too. I live in NASCAR country, where every good ole boy thinks he's the next Richard Petty. If you don't speed too, they honk and flip you off as they zoom past.
Dude. You are so awesome. Thank you!
There purple carrot thing is obviously a made up marketing tactic. If there were really carrots of other colors then they would still be available. Just because one country crossbreeds a plant doesn’t mean other countries would only grow the crossbreed strain. One interesting fact about carrots is if you eat two much of them they effect your skin pigmentation. I'm not 100% sure but I think it was Jefferson Carver who got lighter skinned over the years from eating allot of carrots and tomatoes. Of cores he ate allot of peanuts too. It’s been a long time since I took a history class. But I remember he came up with an incredible number of uses for peanuts.
I love the speeding video. My brother in law and his friend laughed there way out of a ticket once. My brother waved to the officer. Then his friend, not seeing the officer, floored it as he was pulling out of a parking lot. The cop turned on the siren right away. Charlie told is friend he was waving to him as he pulled out. They couldn't stop laughing. The officer got frustrated and just let them go with a warning. Another one of my brother in-laws got out of a speeding and wickless driving ticket, going 40 mph over the speed limit and swerving to the music and didn't know how he got out of the ticket until a few hours later. He and his friend didn't realize it was gay pride week until after they got to Key West and they went into a bar. They then realized the officer let them off because he thought they were a gay couple going there for the rally.
