Time after time. [Mar. 8th, 2009|11:40 pm]
[mood |depresseddepressed]
[music |not my phone]

Getting this in, just before it's officially Monday.

Did you all remember daylights saving time? Spring forward!

Born in the hills of Tennessee in the 1940s, Mountain Dew was originally invented by two brothers, Barney and Ally Hartman, for use as a mixer with whiskey. Mountain Dew is actually slang for "moonshine," and some of the early bottles were even adorned with sketches of a character called Willy the Hillbilly!

Kudos to the first person who wants to find me said illustration.

And: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbafxJdP7QY&e

Kelly Ripa and Anderson Cooper working out.

Weak, I know, but I'm having a crap night, and haven't even responded to the majority of yesterdays comments yet. Sorry.

Best I found of the original was this.

Personally though I can't stand the stuff. I tried one sip of mountain dew and never had a drop since. Though I was amused by a drink that, I suppose, takes it back to its roots. It's a long island iced tea with mountain dew instead of coke. They then put a glow stick in the glass and called it three-mile island iced tea.

Yep. I remember it coming out. I could not understand why it was so popular. I've always disliked the stuff.

ROFL three mile island iced tea? That's too funny!

I love Mtn. Dew it has everything I need to function in the morning sugar and caffeine :) I even like the taste, of course my mom told me that I really didn't, but it was the only soda I knew I could drink without my dad or one of my cousins taking it when I was allowed to have soda at family gatherings. There is another soda like it in color and taste called Kickapoo Joy Juice. It still has the hillbillies on it.

That stuff! I drank some when I was in the States cos it sounded nice. I could not understand why I could not sleep all that night.I later found out that it has more caffeine in it than coke, and I am the Queen of
De-caffeinated products. Huh!

First I'd heard of ol' Willy.

As for the drink...like someone else mentioned...I had it once. Once! UGH.

This was the first year that I didn't get to see the time change in a long time. Usually, I'm awake at 2:00 when it suddenly turns into 3:00 (or, in the Fall, when it suddenly goes backwards)

Really screws up AIM chat logs when time goes backwards, I seem to recall.

It makes sense that it would. All the computers must have little mini seiaures of confusion.

Diane Sawyer just did a piece on Appalachia and Mountain Dew is a huge problem there. People there are addicted to the stuff and it is rotting the teeth of the children. Most people in the hills of Kentucky have lost teeth, sometimes all of them, by the time they are in their 20's and 30's. They give it to babies and toddlers in their bottles and sippy cups instead of milk, which they can't afford or don't have proper refrigeration to keep PepsiCo is finally acknowledging the problem because of her reports and is helping a mobile dentist who has been going around at his own expense with a dental clinic rigged up in a semi, fixing children's teeth and replacing adults' teeth. It was really sad to see all these little kids with their teeth rotting out of their mouths because of soda.
