The centuries old practice of plowing farm fields, which has fallen from favor in recent years, is not only time consuming but also harmful to the environment. Research by Boston College’s Geology and Geophysics Department has determined that plowing releases 41 percent more carbon into the atmosphere than no-till farming. Carbon, incorporated into greenhouse gases, contributes to global warming. No-till farming also produces 15 percent more food on the same acreage then conventional farming, which is important for feeding a growing world population.

( Interesting. I know squat about farming, so I had no idea.)

And how to vote!

Also, if anyone wants to discuss the candidates, and the U.S. election, by all means, post here. It’s coming up. And I love a healthy debate. No attacks, or I’ll kick ya arse. :)

the only thing I have to say is that my fellow Democrats seem a little too hopeful. I know the obvious choice is Obama, but we should never underestimate the stupidity of our fellow Americans.

(Is that an attack?)

No, just a sad fact, actually. *sigh*
(And I'm not even a Democrat...)

So many people are crossing party lines this election. It makes me happy. :)

I was a Libertarian until recently. I decided to go ahead and sign up as a Democrat last year so I could have a say in the primaries. (Which was pointless because I live in Florida.)

The Republican party hasn't had a place to stand for years. Their pandering to the neocon fascists makes me ill.

My only response to them is "Die in a fire, 'k?" I'm hoping that our recent exposure to this kind of Nazis for Christ thinking puts the final nail in their credibility coffin.

I'm sorry - I was nasty there. :(

It's okay. I guess being nasty against Nazi's is A-Ok. :)

Is it an attack to quote Sir Winston Churchill who said "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."?

I've been following fivethirtyeight.com lately. It is statistics put together by someone who normally deals in statistics for sports. It will be interesting to see how his predictions come to pass, not just in the presidential races but more so in congress.

It's a good quote. :)

And I think I saw the guy you're talking about on Colbert. :) I like the predictions he had back then.

That's the one. It's also the least character based interview I've seen Colbert do in awhile. The only time he tried to interrupt and play his character of a conservative pundit who doesn't let facts get in his view of the world was when he challenged the win probability thinking it was a prediction of the popular vote.

lol, maybe a little. ;)

But I agree, that we're all too confident right now. Best thing to do is vote! And hold off on all the gloating until after the votes are counted. :)
