In the beauty industry an olive shade of powder is known as Rachel. The shade was named after a French tragic actress who was famous for her natural facial color. Sadly, her unique skin tone resulted from tuberculosis, which killed her in 1858 at the age of thirty-seven.

For some reason that reminds me of how members of the French court in the days of the king would bleed themselves so their skin had a milky pallor. The things that humans do to their bodies in the name of "beauty."

Man. I shoulda been a French noblewoman. They woulda thought I was hot. *grin*

And you're right, people will do ANYTHING to be considered their society's proscribed idea of beauty.
