All Oscar-nominated films for Best Picture in 1998 (at the March 1999 ceremony) took place more than 50 years before the film was released. The Best Picture winner was Shakespeare in Love, and the other nominees that year were Saving Private Ryan, Life Is Beautiful, The Thin Red Line and Elizabeth.

That's pretty cool. I just watched part of Shakespeare in Love this weekend, I love that movie, and now I really want to watch the whole thing again. Though, Saving Private Ryan was excellent too.

I still need to see those, they looked really good. I haven't seen anything nominated for Best Picture this year, which is really sad. I have nothing to root for. Though, I still say Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind should have been nominated for best picture, both because it's excellent and also because then I'd have something to root for.

I've seen all five of the nominees for best film in 98 and I think that they should be ranked 1. Life is Beautiful 2. Elizabeth, 3. Saving Priavate Ryan 4. Shakespare In Love and 5. The Thin Red Line.

I haven't seen Eternal Sunshine yet, I've heard great things. My favorite film that's up this year is Finding Neverland.
