[music |It's A Fine Life - Oliver!]

When she performs a marriage, Reverend Susan Brown, a minister at the Church of Scotland's cathedral in Dornoch, Scotland, always gives a gift. A twin pack of toilet paper. Why toilet paper? And why a pack of two rolls instead of one, or three, or four? "It's symbolic," Reverend Brown explains. "There are two rolls together, just like the couple. And th toilet paper is soft, gentle, long and strong, which is what I hope their marriage will be. " Reverend Brown married Madonna and Guy Ritchie in December of 2000. They got toilet paper, too.

oh speaking of which.... well not really, but here's my train of thought:

Newsies--->Swing Kids-->"Bei Mir Bist du Schone"

You know that song, "Bei Mir Bist du Schone", the song that the female singer sings at the last Swing party when everyone is getting arrested? A friend sent me two albums by this group called Vagabond Opera, and they do that song, among a bunch of original stuff which is all AMAZING.

They are a band that is very heavily influenced by vintage European cabaret music, and they also do stuff that has Yiddish and eastern european influnces - they're 6 piece band, accordian/sax/cello/drums/horns and the two singers (who are the sax and accordian player) are classically trained. In addition to having this great Brechtian-swing-vaudeville sound, their original stuff has some really clever lyrics. I HIGHLY recommend "Fremont St. Stomp" and "Marlene" ("I wish I was Marlene Dietricht").

Anyway.

You'd enjoy.

yeah! just send me the webpage I should upload it too, i forget. i'll try to upload the other two as well if its not too much trouble.

I am working a show tonight, so i'll get to it tomorrow eve if I get home too late tonight! I'm freaking OBSESSED with this group since I got their stuff so I'm thrilled to spread the word.

they have a myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/vagabondopera - but it doesn't have "Bei Mir..." or "Fremont." it DOES have the Marlene song though!

That is the most random fun fact I have ever heard LOL. Well it seems so far that he had a very Charlie Brown childhood, which I can't imagine translates well in adulthood lol. Its a pretty well written bio though, and the author inserts comics that pertain to the specific events of Schultz's life.
