[music |About to do easter eggs, so lots of excitement. ;)]

Stressed out and stuck in traffic with only your cell phone to keep you company? Call a dolphin. As you listen to their underwater clicks and whistles, your stress will dissapear. At least that's waht scientists at Ireland's Dolphin and Wildlife Foundation hope will happen once they've installed underwater microphones in the Shannon estuary, where dolphins reside year round. They're working with telecom giant Vodaphone to make it possible for cell phone users worldwide to "reach out and touch" the dolpins. Some kinks still need to be worked out, though- dolphins use wide frequency band to communicate, most of which is beyond the human range of hearing.

And weird dating on demand. I wish she was a little less forced, but you know.

Dolphins!!

Hopefully I'm not a weirdo, but I think the dolphin on demand idea is really cool! I was just talking with one of my 7yo boys this morning about how dolphins communicate. There's a very neat article in the latest National Geographic on animal communication; dolphins were discussed; it was fascinating!!

Re: Dolphins!!

It's definitely cool, but I think talking to them on my phone would be a little strange. lol. I'd rather communicate dolphin-person in their presence. :)

I don't see that working well unless they have some awesome echo communication techonology. I used to swim with the dolphins just yards from me when I lived in Florida and I could never hear them under water.

I was wondering about that too.

And that's so cool! I've always wanted to swim with dolphins.

I love your icon. Saturn is the most beautiful planet in the system, and the most intriguing.

True, and from a human perspective you can't help but love the blue green jewel, but if you want pure splendor and wonder, its hard to get past the rings and the incredibly curious moons that planet has. Titan alone is worth every probe we could possibly send there. If there's life anywhere else in the solar system, Saturn is probably the place. Enceladus, Titan...I guess you could include some of Jupiter's moons (Europoa, Callisto especially).

But then I'm a huge astronomy geek. Standing in the Mojave desert usuing my puny telescope and watching moons rise and cast their shadow over the surface of Jupiter, seeing the southern polar cap of Mars and viewing the rings of Saturn are the closest thing I've felt to religious awe in my entire life. Creation, whatever its origins is wonderful on a scale that I personally can't fully fathom.

Sorry to geek out on you...its just that kind of thing really fascinates me.

I enjoy geek. ;) It's awesome. I need t learn more about Saturn but from what I know, and what you've mentioned, I agree. An awesome planet overall, and I'd love to study more, so I'm going to continue to keep my eyes and ears open. :)

Strange...I had the most vivid dream involving a dolphin last night. It was some sort of facility built by this rich, eccentric old man, and he had one dolphin in a large, intricate tank.

I've always loved dolphins. I know its not just me, but if there are companion intelligences on the planet, its them and the chimps. Possibly the gorillas, too. And maybe elephants. Actually, we use the word "sentient" to refer to ourselves, but that just means capable of emotion. If that's the criteria you'd probably have to include most mammals on the planet, and probably plenty of birds as well. But who knows. Everytime we try and set ourselves apart from the animal world (tool use, culture, emotion), it always turns out we're all just the same.

Well it had the strangeness of any dream...it was part of a larger story but I didn't know all the details (most of my dreams are like that). But re the dolphin...the only word is communion. Weird, I know, but there it is. I suppose if I had a spirit totem, that would be it.

Well you can control them, to some extent. Have you ever heard of lucid dreaming? If you can get to the place where you realize you're dreaming you can control what happens.

Although in my experience that's rare. But its cool when it happens.
