[music |Chatting about an annoying fellow]

In the 1890s, an unknown woman was found drowned in the Seine. Known as the l'Inconnue de la Seine, her death mask became a fixture in the homes of artists and writers, and her look the ideal of the age. Many have speculated on her identity, and she has inspired a long list of artistic works by Nabokov, Rilke, Man Ray, and others. She has since become the "most kissed girl in the world" thanks to the Norwegian toymaker that used her mask to create Resusci Anne, the standard CPR doll.

She does look really happy... Maybe she was dying, and killed herself to get it over with on her own terms. I reckon you'd be kind of happy with that? I think i would.

Also, when i took CPR, we had a boy doll. He was just a torso. I forget his name. I didn't like him.

I don't know about the calm expression. I think it's strange, because regardless if she had decided to kill herself.. when one drowns they're gasping for air.. I wonder if she had been killed prior to that and thrown in the Seine. I don't know. I find it all fascinating though.

Oh that was rad! XD I loved the wry humor describing all of the bows. I'm taking Japanese and I have a Japanese roomie - she actually showed us the down on all fours bow once when she was telling a story about apologizing to her dad for something. That culture is so crazy-awesome. :)

Thanks, Random!

At first I didn't want to look at her picture because I thought it would creep me out (I once saw a dead girl as a kid and have been forever creeped out) but she looks so peaceful and beautiful, not at all what you'd think... the story is kind of creepy though. I wonder why they would use her face as the CPR doll...

Yeah, I think it's really fascinating too. I creeped myself out for a moment by looking at her, bu then decided "Nah. She's much to calm and content for me to be freaked."

-- You saw a dead girl? EEp! Don't share if you don't want too, but now I'm curious.

Weird to think that she'd probably never have been noticed if she hadn't jumped in the river.

And Man Ray kicked ass.

I've heard drowning doesn't hurt, but I don't believe it.

Knowing none of the facts, I have decided that she was walking along the river in a day dream and fell in the water. She couldn't swim, so she drowned.

Makes sense. Still desn't explain her calm expression though. -- I guess if I had to die I'd rather freeze to death then drown.
