Dress you up, Dress you down. [Feb. 18th, 2008|12:01 pm]

What did you wear to prom(s) if you went? :) Extra points for pictures. ;)

I wore a pink ( and now that I think about it in retrospect.. uuuugly) ballgown kinda dress for Jr prom. lol. Very sparkly bodice, and huuuge skirt. A little antebellum. Sr. prom was a much prettier burgundy dress that was a little more sleek, and with a much lower neckline as I recall. lol. And a beaded bodice, and a cool shimmery fabric, with a skirt that moved nicely. The first is rotting away in a thrift store somewhere. or some other 16 year old with bad taste may be wearing it to her prom... and the burgundy one is in a dress bag in my closet. I haven't even tried it in at least 3 years, but every time I start to give it away I picture incredible scenarios where I would need it, and just can't do it.

Same with my pleather pants, now that I mention. They're like 3 sizes too small, but somehow I just know that if I ever have a daughter, when she's 16 she'll hate me for getting rid of them. I remember being pretty mad that my Mom didn't keep any of her bellbottoms.

I'm ramble-y today!

So.. have some prostitutes from Thailand, I guess...

I don't remember where I found this, and I just think it's kinda sad. Fascinating, but sad.

ETA - In the comments below there's more info but: http://www.tamarcards.com/ here's an organization that's helping these girls. Any cards you buy help support the organization that's teaching these girls life skills to get them out of prostitution. I posted directly to the card area, but there's a link to info on the support group itself.

ok i dont usually do that, but today i thought: WHY NOT?

Prom -
My junior prom dress was the best. It was a Jessica McClintock, with a cream boned bodice and a gold skirt and rhinestone straps. My date James told me I looked like Princess Grace. He was just about to come out of the closet, but I appreciated the compliment nonetheless:

That same year I went to my friends senior prom with this kid I did a show with - most of my friends were a year ahead of me, so I was glad to have the opportunity to party with them. Ironically, my favorite photo from it is with my friend Jon, who was also in the junior class with me (he went to like 7 proms) - Dress was just a strapless princess seamed red, very classic.

and lastly, my own senior prom dress, which was my LEAST favorite, I didn't even like it at the time. My intention was to get something very rennaissance inspired. But I was too scared to go into Hot Topic lol so I ended up buying this dress in a rush. It isn't the worst, looking back, but it definitely is nothing next to my junior prom princess dress. It looks white in this photo, but it was actually pastel pink w/little bows on the straps and princess seams. I went with Jon this year:

The girlfriend used to make me sit and watch "Sex and the City" with her. There's that episode where the red-head fits into her way to small jeans. I can't remember what she calls them. Her "sexy jeans", "too small jeans", whatever. But I do remember that every girl has a pair.

Apparently it's for inspiration to lose weight, or a memento of the past, but honestly, I think they think it's a "magic" pair of jeans that will make them younger again if they can get into them. Like a time traveling portal that only opens up once every ten years or something.

Prom? Tux. Straight. Cheap little cane, and a fedora. I sweat like a pig in the thing.

They're not all bad.. but I know they sure could be. I had some awesome proms, and no complaints from the actual prom. Jr after party was not the best ever, but I can't blame anyone but myself for that. lol. Don't do lemon-poppers after prom.. just saying!

Back when my hair was long and dyed red.
Me in Lazlo

I was in Pattaya last year, and it's atrocious. The sex industry alone makes over $25 billion a year. There's also a 99.9% chance that one of those girls wasn't always a girl--every business there has at least one "ladyboy" and you can get a sex change pretty much anywhere.

The food, however, was unbelievably fantastic.

Nice hair!! It looks good! I wish more guys would have long hair.

And it's terrible. :( -- There's that too, which is always an added bonus. Hmph.

Glad to hear the food was all right htere. Lots of vegetarian options?

Cravat's rock. That's awesome. -- And oooh yes. I remember doing a bit of that, Jr year, but I had changed into jeans by that point. We knew we were getting drunk so my dates and my friends and I brought changes of clothes. lol.

What color was her dress before the sick?

SR Prom: Purple shiny dress with a criss cross back and white elbow gloves. I did my hair myself, because I didn't think it was a big deal. I didn't have a date, because I wanted to have fun and invited a gay sophmore to come with me, but his mom wouldn't let him

Aww!!! Why wouldn't she let him? That would have been awesome! Sr. prom I went with a gay guy too, and it was waaay more fun then Jr prom when I had a straight date. No drama. Just fun. :) And we color coordinated. It was great. I'm sorry you didn't get to bring him.

And that dress sounds reeeally awesome.

Of course I have pictures of my dresses. But if I post them, then ya'll see me. hehe. And then all the mystery is gone. Or at least the mystery of what I looked like as a teenager. lol

And you're sooo pretty! What an AMAZING dress! WOW!

That Pattaya thing is so sad. ;_; I get angry when I see things like that.

As for highschool proms, I never went to one. But I did go to my 8th grade prom (graduation night, whatever) and the dress was pretty badass. Just a simple black dress. It looped down in the front with a bunch of fabric.. anything to make my bust bigger than it was lol.

First Prom:
Photobucket
This was my second dress, cost about $30, I loved it! It's very versitail and figure flattering, a-symentrically cut on the bottom, made me had boobs when I didn't really! muahha It's still in my closet, still has sparkle glitter on it. I ran for prom queen that year, I still have the sash and the rose from that night :p

Second Prom:
Photobucket
Wasn't supposed to be a prom dress at all, it was above the knee, PLUNGING neckline, figure hugging, I loved this dress so much! I still wear it out sometimes. I wore this one with a corset, the guy at the soda bar stopped what he was doing for a good few seconds to look down my dress! LOL

How do people put the pictures in the box? :(

Fine. I'll photobucket it.

Junior prom: I don't especially like this picture, but it's the only one I have of the full dress. That's my boyfriend of the time. I wasn't wearing my heels and he was wearing thick shoes, so he seems a lot taller than me than he really is. I take every inch I can get, being 5'1.75''

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v309/YDdraigGoch/officialprompic.jpg

And senior prom. I loved this dress. I wore it with flats. It was so simple and beautiful and fantastic. I didn't have a date senior year (the girl I liked was going with a boy, damn boys) so a gay boy I didn't especially like appropriated me. This picture would be nice if it weren't off center
