do you know our Russian language a bit?:)
you know, I used to study English in the "American Language Center" here))
and the teachers there - they gave us topics to speak about and there was almost no Russian in the Center.
I really hope the teachers enjoyed it!:)

That's interesting! You'd think they'd give you a variety of topics to speak on.

And nope. I know htat something that sounds like "Sue-cah" is bitch in Russian, learned that from a girlfriend my Dad had years ago. She also brought a Russian scrabble game into the house that we still have somewhere. It'd be a cool skill to have, for sure.

I speak a very small amount of French.

Yap! +) "Suka" is "bitch" in Russian! +) Exactly! +) "Suka" also means "a female dog" in Russian +) Not even also, it`s the 1st (not negative) meaning of the word "suka" +) Is there a non-negative meaning for the word "bitch" in English? +) Spells like a "birch", but a bitch`s got no business with this tree, or does she? +)
Scrabble? Is it "Tetris"? Did she tell you the name of this game?

Oh yeah, that`s a very nice idea, let`s practice francois also! +) You know, I started reading Emile Zola`s "Germinal". I`m only in the beginning, but although it`s a Russian translated book, it`s a nice reason to think French! +)

The funny thing about the word "suka" in Russian is that there`s a town with a name Yokosuka in Japan, south of Tokyo. And this, read in Russian, means that John Lennon`s Japanese widow Yoko Ono is a bitch +))

Woohoo! Glad to see I wasn't too far off on bitch. Thank you! :) And bitch was originally referred to as a female dog in English too, but it's rarely used as that reference anymore. The derogatory version has taken precedence.

And scrabble's a word game, where you spell out words with 7 letters that you grab from a ba, and each of those letter tiles have a certain worth, and then depending on where you put them on the board you can get a double letter score, or a triple word score, etc. to bring your points higher.

And Yokosuka! LOL. Fair enough definition for her, as far as I'm concerned. ;) I'm not a big fan.

And man.. it's been sooo long since I've used French. You're much more fluent in English then I am in French, though I've got the accent down. lol

Do the English-speaking people have a special word for a female dog? Or you call of them "dogs" now no matter what`s their sex? We (Russians) have 3 words for a dog:

- Dog: sobaka
- Female dog: suka
- Male dog: kobel

"Kobel" is also a bit negative word, it`s sometimes used for men who change their girl-friends too often.
Even "sobaka" is sometimes (more rarely) used as a curse synonymous as "bitch", "bastard". You know, Russians may call "suka" even a bad man, but very more often it`s a word for women.

I know the game you talk about: it`s "Erudit", isn`t it?

I just laugh about Yokosuka, but I got NOTHING against Yoko Ono, she`s alright I think. (Maybe I don`t know something yacky about her.)
We gotta find some French LJ-users and find out if we understand them! +)

Generally we just call a dog, a dog, and then reference if it's a girl or boy dog with he or she.

I believe so! :)

I know she had an art installment last year or the year before where her and her friends ate a dog.. which I think is just vile. she creeps me out.

And that's a good plan. ;)
