Oh, I love old school ads. ;)
And a cat and dog in an epic battle over a pet bed, but I think it really symbolizes more. ;)
I'm actually researching feminine hygiene in the middle ages.
But seriously, what an awesome ad. I am a more complete woman now. Obviously, that is why men sniff me on busses. I thought it may have been my perfume, but OBVIOUSLY it's an indecision to tell me about this wonderful product.
And for the advertisers, peel back a foreskin sometime and take a sniff. And they like us to do what? Not unless you've showered carefully, m'dear!
Awesome! Any cool tidbits to speak of?
*clears throat* Oh. Wow!!! You rock.
Lots of cool things, but most are only partially substantiated, so I don't just want to come out and say stuff. The whole no underwear thing is a myth thought. Any reasonable woman of childbearing age would know that at certain times, the whole no pants thing doesn't work.
Personal cleanliness was higher than most people believe, though, and soem very explicit instructions for cleansing the vagina and vulva are written. Getting the sources and reliable translations take up a lot of time and are hard to come by.
While I am a museum nerd, it's obvious that I'm not quite nerdy enought to be fluent in Greek and Latin.
And wow!! I'm surprised. That's awesome though. Was it for all stations in life or more for those women of wealth?
That'd be cool though, wouldn't it?
Something I'm really looking into. Different regions had different things available to them. Not everyone has the use of cotton. Just like today, standards of personal hygiene vary woman to woman. The wealthier, the more particular as more substances were available for use.
I have some pretty cool theories which are only partially backed up at this point but I believe that there will be enough proof to make claims at some point. I really am doing a whoooole lot of reading and research at the moment.
Very awesome. I'm excited to see what conclusions you come too. You'll post? :)
It'll go on my website, but I'm hoping there will be enough to publish. There's a lot of interest and the more i look inot it the more there seems to be to learn.
THat would be very awesome. :)
