BLANGBLANG gobbles! The ones in my back yard are much less sparkly. I saw them just Tuesday. I ate their cousin today with my friends whose families are far away along with my roomie and me mum. We had pre-prepared stuff, but it was so much work to heat it up that I would rather have made it from scratch. Well I prepared vegetables myself.
I'm a vegetarian so i didn't have any turkey, but candied carrots for the win! :)
I went to work for 8 hours (they made thanksgiving dinner for us :p) then I came home and ate dinner with mi familia. My mom made a fun array of food this year in the absence of my grandparents. They ran away to Laughlin :p
Ooh, did you get paid more due to the holiday? :)
i spent it with my dad and stepfamily, which iw asn't looking totally forward to as my stepfamily is Filipino, and they dont like the rich food we eat generally, which means a nontraditional dinner...BUT - we went to their friends Gary and Cindy who had a MARVELOUS spread of all my thanksgiving favoriteS!!! so for that i was very thankful :D
Enjoying the day with my girlfriend and my folks. Also enjoying haveing my sister back from a study abroad program
Aww, sounds like lots to be thankful for. :)
Went to my partner's sister's house, and had dinner with her and her partner. But Im sick so I had difficulty staying awake.
Do you have sweet potatoes and marshmellows too?
Oh no! You don't hurt sweet potatoes with mushrooms ! That's wrong!
Writing a thesis on Thanksgiving? Oh I don't envy that!
And Turtles for the win!!!
Thanksgiving this year... Jesse and I are both sick with a cold, and we didn't want to get our families sick, so we just groaned and sniffled in bed until I had to go to work. Turns out my restaurant owner told me yesterday, "of COURSE we'll be open tomorrow!" and I show up to work, and its closed. Go back home, find the only store in town thats open, stock up on cough/cold stuff,.. come home, family drops by Thanksgiving leftovers... tv.
O yeah. We party hard.
Aww! I hope you're both feeling MUCH better soon!!
But my family's having dinner tomorrow :P
Awesome. :) Did you get extra money for workin'?
Went to one of my family members house. Had a great time. And my kid now has a "girlfriend" nearly ten years his senior. lol. He claimed her. I think she's mortified.
I'm a vegetarian, but the cooks were kind and made plenty that my little family and I could eat.
Just the three of us. Turkey and trimmings made by me, mostly... with some help tearing up bread crumbs by Raud. Tons of leftovers to do stuff with. Watched Gray's Anatomy with my honey... It was quiet.
Quiet can definitely be nice. :) A good Thanksgiving overall?
We dont do Thanksgiving in England, but as luck would have it my daughter is in LA at the moment holidaying with some friends. I phoned her last night and she had just eaten her first Thanksgiving dinner. She was so full she said she could hardly breathe! She had eaten tons of turkey, mashed potatoes and yams, but refused to eat pumpkin pie!
lol! ;) What did she think of the whole practice?
I had a really amazing Thanksgiving; I was especially grateful. See, my mom went into the hospital on Monday night with tightness in her chest, etc. and she'd already had an angioplasty, so she wasn't supposed to be experiencing any pain. Turns out, the stent they put in was too small, so they had to put a balloon in it to open it again. She got OUT of the hospital on Thanksgiving at like 4pm.
Now, my mom is an AMMMMMMMMAZING cook and turkey is one of the things she is best at. I always helped her marinate, etc. when I was a kid, but I'd NEVER cooked ANYTHING by myself (except maybe macaroni), but because she marinates the stuff the day before and she didn't get home till late, I had to do the ham and turkey COMPLETELY by myself, but it came out AMAZING. I mean, my mom is seriously like a fucking master chef (without the license) and my ham and turkey came out as good as hers. I was really proud and happy that my parents both enjoyed, particularly my mom.
Also, my dad is 100% disabled from the military (mentally and physically) and he pretty much locked himself in a room when I was 12 or 13 and the only time he comes out is for like doctor appointments (which he only goes to when he has no choice) and like when he has to be put in the hospital and shit. He hadn't really come out for holidays are anything like that in a LONG time. We had a "falling out" with my brother when he got married; I was about 14 years old, so before we'd have big family gatherings, etc. but after that, everything just kind of stopped and we were alone. This year, I guess my dad was happy that my mom was ok/home, so we ate at the table and listened to music (Neil Diamond) and my dad was telling jokes, etc. which tells me he was feeling relatively good (he also suffers from depression) and it reminded me of childhood (I have really good childhood memories, just of like going out with my dad and him telling stories and always listening to music, etc.), so it was really one of the simplest, but most amazing Thanksgivings I've ever had. :D
After that, I went for a walk on the strip with a friend, just to burn off some calories. Nothing special.
*hugs* Awww! I'm so glad you had such an amazing Thanksgiving. That's wonderful, hon.
I played WoW and had one bite of turkey. Then I just made a pizza instead.
As a vegetarian I far prefer pizza to turkey. ;)
