And a little tidbit I found on the net.

WHO DECIDED THAT THERE SHOULD BE 60 SECONDS IN A MINUTE AND 60 MINUTES IN AN HOUR?
The ancient Sumerians did. In 2400 B.C., they were the first to divide a circle into 360 degrees, each degree into 60 minutes, and each minute into 60 seconds. When the clock was invented, its round face lent itself to this sexagesimal system.

People had waaaay too much fucking time on their hands.
That may sound hypcritical from someone who has a livejournal, but I'm paying the price currently with all this precalc trig bullshit that never really had to be understood (besides for understanding the complex structure of exponential functions and by extension the universe, but like, whatever).
