Sooo, this is amazing.

LJ is offering out gift certificates for $30 to use for this charity called http:www.donorschoose.org . You get to pick what the 30 bucks goes for. There's stuff there for music, art, books, computers.. everything as I understand it. The thirty dollars is free from sixapart to you. All you need to do is email : donorschoose@sixapart.com . They will send you a certificate in an email with a code to enter on the website, and use $30 toward any of the endeavors there. If you feel so inclined you can add your own money as well. :) Up to you o' course. Apparently all projects that are submitted are done so by teachers, requesting things that they need for their classrooms to help kids.

I did some quick math... and i know tons of people on my friendslist are inactive but IF every one of my LJ friends decided to do this, we would together raise approximately $18,000 for various charitable causes.

I know a lot of people on LJ have been upset with the different changes and policies, and this and that going on in Livejournal. All the same... I think this is an amazing opportunity for us to have some say where this money goes, and who will be helped by it I know it's tax deductible for six apart, etc, but as far as i'm concerned it's the coolest thing they've ever offered.

One downfall.. it's only going to help US kids, but you can request a certificate regardless and use it. There's information on how to enter your country code in the comments of the LJ_biz entry. ( And I promise if I ever have the opportunity to do something like this for kids in your country, I will. )

Now these are available only until MONDAY Oct 1 at 5 PM PT, so get your request in now!! They'll take 24-48 for you to receive the email with your code. Still waiting for mine, too. :)

Please please please set aside whatever differences you have with LJ to do this, and pimp it out to everyone on your journals if you feel so inclined. I think it's a wonderful way to make a difference. I'm really excited. :)

If you decide to do it, if you want to leave a comment, that would rock. Let everyone know what project you chose for your $30 gift (that you didn't have to pay anything for.. ;) ) to go too!

You guys rock. I can't wait to hear the response. :)

I understand your feelings on this.. but $30 to go toward a good cause? You just don't feel comfortable being involved at all?

but $30 to go toward a good cause?

I do not trust them to do what they say they are going to do. Sending them cash that's 'going to a good cause'? Nope. They are liars and double dealers. Would not surprise me if they sat on that money for six months and skimmed the interest.

Re: but $30 to go toward a good cause?

Sorry, babe. It's SixApart. I'm done with them. They are not to be trusted. Period.

The only reason I still have an LJ is my friends here.

Re: but $30 to go toward a good cause?

*nod* It's up to you. That's your perogative, but I think $30 to a charity is $30 to a charity and I can't afford to give my own $30 right now so I'm more then happy to spend SA's.
