I would imagine back then huge amounts of perfume were probably a necessity, if you could get it. Personally I like a more subtle approach to fragrance. But then, I'm not the ruler of a long, incestuous line of Ptolamaic greek rulers pretending to be Pharohs and sleeping with anything in a centurian's uniform.

Yet wouldn't you like to be? =)
Interesting that you should bring up perfume - I'm reading Perfume: Story of a Murderer
. The novel gets into the utter smelliness of the human race in pre-revolution France and how it disgusts the main character.
Personally, I like Demeter's Lychee cologne. I love all things lychee.
I've been meaning to read that for awhile now.
i haven't really found any perfume that i like. i have half a bottle of this cheapo stuff left, but they stopped making it, and anyway; whenever i smell it now i get flashbacks of what was a very good but very OVER time. i love perfume, because i hate to shower. but i haven't got any so i use my husband's a lot .. it's called Funeral Home and smells like a bucketfull of dying roses o_o
Funeral Home..? Seriously?
On women: Cool Water
On me: Axe Phoenix
I like cool water. Not a big fan of the axe products.
hahaha, my dad was rocking out to that. ^^
And I don't really have a favorite perfume. But my favorite sent, which is kinda like the same thing, is campfire smoke. If they market that I'd buy it.
Haha! Awesome about the rocking out. I love it. :)
And ooh. That is a good smell.
I don't really use any, except adding essential or perfume oils to things. My favorite being jasmine oil. I adore that...
I have several friends addicted to BPAL fragrances. Several of my friends collect and exchange "imps" for $3.50 that are little vials that are apparently pretty generous samples of particular fragrances.
Some are definitely sublime. http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com/
SO cool! I'm totally going to buy stuff from that site when I can afford too. I loved perusing it.
Oshadi, Fleur Paradis
is my favorite.
Its very earthy, smells like amber and sandlewood and bit of jasmine... I LOVE IT! And I always get compliments when I wear it out. But my boyfriend says it reminds him of the polish his mom used on her piano... so, he smells it and he thinks "giant piano".. bastard.
On men I like the same sort of smells, bay-rum, juniper, cardamom, licorice,... and patchouli, but only when its on a freshly showered/clean boy... patchouli on a dirty hippie reeks!!
Boyfriend likes it when I smell like food... so he picked out a chocolate perfume for me, and I bought a tropical fruit basket type from Bath and Body works that he LOVES... to me I just smell like fruit cocktail.
And I used to mix my own essential oil perfume,..
Lavender, Lime and Grapefruit... its sweet, citrus-y and fresh smelling with just a touch of floral undertone to keep the scent around...
I miss this smell... I should make some more...
I hear Brad Pitt is actually one of the worst smelling celebs.

I love Happy for Men. When sparingly used, it is a most enchanting scent for me. As for myself, I don't really use perfume. I do wash in locally made scented soaps. My current one is cinnamon clove. Mmm. Keeps the funk down, too, for my long nights in class! ;P
Oooh! I do love local scented soaps. I need to buy some more. I use dove the rest of the time.
My favorite scent is patchouli, satre, strawberry, vanilla oils. I put it on different pulse spots. Mixed together it smells great. Its also strong but not over powering. You can usually tell I was just in a room
Cool! Sounds like some awesome scents.
I dig that video.
Cologne? au natural ma'am. =)
I usually am too. I haven't found anything I'm in love with yet. :)
What's your favorite perfume/cologne?
i have three..
Ooh! There's an opium perfume? Or real opium? I've never tried it, I'm afraid.
Never smelled any of those. I'll have to check them out. :)
Banana Republic's "W", and anything that smells yummy.
Ooh, I'll have to smell that too. I'm makin' a list. ;)
HMM, I've got a few:
Polo Sport, Kenzo Amour, BVLGari, Sensi by Armani, Reaction by Kenneth Cole & Burberry Brit
Adding them to the list of checking out! :)
