Superstitions. [Apr. 6th, 2007|02:07 pm]

A horseshoe, hung above the doorway, will bring good luck to a home. In most of Europe protective horseshoes are placed in a downward facing position, but in some parts of Ireland and Britain people believe that the shoes must be turned upward or "the luck will run out." A horseshoe hung in the bedroom will keep nightmares away.

Keep nightmares away? But if you want to personify a nightmare, it's going to be a horse. And giving them shoes sounds like a pretty crappy way to dissuade them from hanging out in your bedroom.

lol. *shrug* Got it from my superstition book.
If I was going to personify a nightmare it'd be a clown.

Well, maybe that's a more fitting image, but a mare is a horse. So a nightmare would be... a nocturnal horse?

Re: Yup.

Well, My Grandfather used to hang the horseshoe above the guest room doorway until the day he died. My uncle took it down right after he died. Then all of a sudden, strange stuff has been happening. When we went back for a visit months later, I hung it back up in the guest room, and the weird stuff stopped.

That is my story, lol.
