I've seen that newspaper clipping before. I say we stamp people like her out... if you ask me, they're the reason our country is so far behind, globally and socially. People like her are the reason we have so much hate in our country, they're the reason that our democracy isn't quite as democratic as it could be.

When people like her suppress the views of atheists, gays, African Americans, what-have-you... that's when I get a little depressed about our country. I guess it just gives me more reason to fight against it, though.

I agree with the other things you said, but how can you say that our country is behind the others?

I probably put too much emphasis on the "so", and my enthusiasm for the topic got the best of me. However, it's well-known that our country is handling education in a mediocre fashion--particularly when compared with Japan and China--not to mention we have a significantly higher crime rate than many other countries. Granted, we are extremely lucky in that we live in a fairly stable society, with a freedom you can't anywhere else, but our society unfortunately puts some constraints on that freedom by maintaining these terrible biases towards some "minority" groups.

That, I will agree with.

America consumes a far greater share of the earth's resources than the others by population and consumption ratio. The entire world could not possibly live at that rate of consumption as America. Other (certainly not all other!) countries are way ahead in terms of conservation, mass transit, energy efficiency and recycling. Other countries (certainly not all others) are way ahead of America in terms of providing quality health care for people of all income brackets. Other countries (not all others) are ahead of America for providing paid leave from work for mothers raising small children, with a guarantee of the same job when they return from maternity leave.

Okay, that's true.

I'd give you a paragraph reply but I'm not good at those. XD

Having said all that, America is one of the better countries of the world to live in :)

(I forgot to mention the bit about America being behind in terms of providing free higher education for people of all income levels.)

Precisely.

America has a lot of catching up to do.

Definitely depends on which countries we're looking at.

But stomping out people like her would be discrimination, too, wouldn't it? Reverse discrimination of a sort? I just think it's important that when we know people like this that we try and help them.

The ironic thing is that she and her friends probably say the same thing aboot you and I, in the reverse way. That they want to help us learn the error of our ways, in not hating those they consider immoral and the evil of the world.

Good point. I'm sure you're right, I imagine they say all kinds of things about us "immoral" people. The key is just finding a way to explain the concept of "open-mindedness" and convincing them to live by it.
