Milan - An Italian teacher has been suspended by her school in Milan after cutting off the tongue of a lively 7-year-old child with a pair of scissors, daily Corriere della Sera reported Tuesday.

The boy has since had his tongue stitched back but is afraid to go back to school. His parents say he suffers nightmares and runs away whenever he sees a knife. They are now suing the school for damages.

The incident took place a week ago but was only reported on Tuesday.

According to Corriere, the 22-year-old substitute teacher threatened the child twice with a pair of scissors before actually chopping it off.

'Pull out your tongue. I'll cut it, and you'll no longer talk,' she was quoted as telling the child.

The teacher, who has only been identified by her initials R S, has since apologized, claiming it was an accident.

The school's principal, Anna Maria Dominici, has suspended the teacher and ordered an investigation, saying her conduct could in no way be excused.

What would you do to the teacher who cut off your childs tongue?

And saving the pants.

I'd cut off the teacher's tongue.

Then choke him/her with it.

What a lame excuse, claiming it was an accident. How do you accidentally cut off a kid's tongue? That woman should never be allowed around children again. If it were my kid, I don't know that she'd still be among the living.

Ill show you an accident, you 22 year old substitute teacher. I'll show you a wide variety of accidents, each more painful then the next.

most seven year old children are little monsters to anyone if they think they'll be able to get away with it. i can more than easily imagine that the kid must have been being perectly horrible to her if cutting his tongue off was the only way to get him to shut up. even if school isn't necessarily the place for so harsh a lesson, that kid needed to learn that you can't run off at the mouth to anyone and expect to have your way. i wouldn't be surprised to find out he was an absolute brat and the parents expected his school teachers to raise him and teach him how to be polite. i can't imagine he would have ended up with his tongue cut out by an elementary school teacher if the boy had any manners at all.

sorry, but i've had bad experiences with seven year olds.

You're right, a child with ANY manners would not force (even the craziest of people) a teacher to cut off their tongue....

Of course, all I can think of is the logistics...

Around here, there are nothing but little plastic child-safe scissors around the schoolroom until the kids are like 12!! And, NO 7 yr old child is going to be held long enough for a stranger to take TWO or THREE passes at cutting their tongue off,... how much does it hurt to BITE your tongue, let alone some crazy substitute teacher hacking away with it with some safety-scissors?

My only idea is that she must have brought some specialty extra long sharpened fabric or kitchen shears for the job, from home.... maybe she makes this threat routinely and brings the prop never expecting that she'll actually use it...

And think HOW tough a tongue must be to cut through,... you must have some very sharp scissors indeed, not to mention a strong stomach!

Re: oh man ew

It's horrific. And upon further research it wasn't actually cut OFF, but cut into and required stitches and stuff.
