Maybe it was a costume ball!
ive heard that... the fur thing.. it makes more sense, though ive never heard of a glass or a fur shoe. i have heard of a fur slipper.
Precisely. Makes sense to me. Not quite as glamorous. lol
Its probably for the best. The last thing a fairy tale princess needs it to have protestors throwing paint on her shoes everytime she leaves the castle.
fur sounds SO much more comfy.
well, the original cinderella also had wss (wicked step sisters) cutting off their toes to try and cram the feet into the slipper. imagine all the bloody fur in those slippers! ew.
Yeah, there is that. *shudder* I would think fur would give a little more then glass.... Ahh... matted bloody fur. How lovely!
not disney ready, that version.
Sondheim ready, though ;)
"verre" spelled in different ways can mean Green, Worm, Glass...and other stuff. I don't remember, i haven't had french class in a while. :-/
But speaking of shoes, my feet KILL!!! We went to a renn faire today and i wore high-heels. I -never- wear heels, so what made me think i could wear them for hours and in grass, i dunno.
Heels are not your friend at those renfest places, I've gathered.
Yeah...i'd say never again, but that would probably be a lie. :-/
*sigh* The things women do to pull an outfit together.
I bet they were shaped like the Tazmanian Devil. Novelty slippers!
haha. That's a childrens book if I ever heard one.
You don't mean that Cinderella is a true story, right? Just that in the original versionn of the STORY, they were fur slippers?
they claim, was incorrectly subsituted in early versions of the story for the word vaire. In Medieval French, vaire meant “fur”.
I think that's where this part of my post comes into play? Escially where it says early versions of the story?
Right, I got that. But when I first read your post, it sounded like there was a real Cinderella, and the story was mistranslated many years later, much like a few things that pop up here and there in the bible.
I was just verifying that Cinderella is a work of fiction.
lol. Yeah, I don't know anyone that thinks the story of Cinderella is real.
