[music |Fire And Rain - James Taylor]

"Speak of the Devil" is short for "Speak of the Devil and he shall come". It was believed that if you spoke about the Devil it would attract his attention. That's why when you're talking about someone and they show up people say "Speak of the Devil."

I always heard it as, "Speak of the Devil, and his imp shalll appear" I used to get strange looks when I would say the whole thing and not just "Speak of the Devil". A useful saying!

Oooh! Imp makes MORE sense... especially if you're speaking of someone you're not fond of.. suggesting they are an agent of evil? I like it.

Another shortened phrase: "The proof's in the pudding". Or rather, "The proof of the pudding's in the eating".

Dial up sucks.

We used to have dial up. It was slow as hell.

The video was silly, lol.

Re: Dial up sucks.

Grr. Tell me about it. I've only gone through 19 emails and it's taken me at least a half an hour. That is now how I play. :(

I don't know why everyone is always so afraid of the Devil. Having been raised as a charismatic Christian, I can tell you that all you have to do is put on an expensive suit, comb your hair in a poofy style and rebuke him in a loud Southern accent while holding up a Bible and getting old people to send their money to the address on the screen.

Nothing could be simpler.

BTW, that song almost always makes me go teary eyed for some reason (Fire and Rain...not the B-day song).

Fire and Rain makes me teary too.

I heard it for the first time right after my Mom died and the line: "I always thought I'd see you again.." just.. guh. Even typing it I'm tearing up. Can't help it.
