Love that quote :)
Maybe I would even if I wasn't a huge art nerd...
I love it too. It's beautiful, and so true. I kind of want to get it in calligraphy and make it an art peice in my living room.
and the sad fact is that when I have kids, I'll still tell them that their artwork sucks.
now paint a happy little cloud and a happy little tree.
*blink* why would you tell your child that their artwork sucks?

now I'm the third, damn
So are elephants, except I don't have to change their diapers or take them to therapy.

I love that. In fact, I will put it in my binder!

"Talent borrows. Genius Steals." Pablo Picasso
Baz Lerman's "Romeo and Juliet", as good as it is, still belongs to The Bard. But Bernstein's "West Side Story"..well, Lenny totally owns that. ;)

Re: "Talent borrows. Genius Steals." Pablo Picasso
I definitely agree that Lenny, and Sondheim of course too, OWN West Side Story.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree about Baz's creation though. Claire Danes is deplorable. She couldn't act her way out of a speeding ticket.
sounds true to me. the world is seriously lacking in encouragement for people who are interested in not thinking and doing like everybody else. make yourself useful, they say.
Exactly. Creativity is shunned, it seems. :(
i love picasso.
i'll always have the child artist in me, forever.
it really is a nice thought
that kind of innocence, its one of the more beautiful things the world has to offer
That makes me happy.
I saw a Picasso exhibit this past fall, it was messed up. The guy was an oustanding artist, but some of his drawings were just... chilling. His rendition comic of Francisco Franco and his Minotaur series really stand out in my mind.
I agree. I imagine he must have had a very strange mind, you know? But he sure seems like a cool guy. :) That quote made me just love him.
Speaking as an artist, this is so true. Im just lucky that I had wonderful parents who fostered my creativity and individuality instead of ignoring it. Not that it would have gone away, but being raised in such a way helped me to embrace that.
It really does. My parents were the same way.
YAy for Picasso !! i agree
that reminds me of something
there one a sad story it goes soemthing like this
"There was a little boy who was painting a flower it was muilcolours when his teacher came down and said why are the flowers all in these different colours ? he reply because it is how i like them its different... the teacher goes but these kind of flowers are red and he goes oh? and the teacher goes yes always red .. the boy later went back home and was helping his mom paint her mom noticed he was looking in a book while he was painting and she asked what are you doing? he goes everything has to be the real colour now mommmy ...
i hate the other side of this... sure every child is an artist.. but then most DO grow out of it.. most artists aren't nurtured...most artists are told to repress their emotions and they end up miserable and NOT entertained by the sweet anomolies of life.
:proud to call herself artist:
That's what he's saying.. they need to be nurtured.
