“ You should drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.” The bottled water industry loves this myth, but according to kidney specialist Dr. Heinz Valtin, there is no scientfic evidence to support the claim.

And this is why we drink tap water instead of paying $2 for pretty packaging. Woo consumerism!

Well, there's a big difference between like waters, and then things like sodas and alcoholic drinks that can actually dehydrate you.

I doubt many people actually drink 8, 8-ounce glasses of water a day...plus drinking too much is bad for you.

Yeah, but 'too much' is something along the lines of over 20 8-ounces glasses in a day, which is very unlikely.

And no, most people don't drink their 8 glasses a day. They have sugary soft drink instead, or eat something deep-fried.

It's not just a kidney thing, it is important for all your cells to stay hydrated and blah blah blah. They reccomend anything from 1.5L to 5L of water a day depending on body size, weather conditions and physical activity. And depending how much coffee/ soft drink/ etc you consume also. However once you start drinking 6 litres plus, it starts to put some severe strain on the kidneys.

Drinking a decent amount of water also helps your body eliminate toxins and keeps your skin clear(er).

Yeesh, I sound like a health spa pamphlet. My family are health nuts (can you tell?). And I'm not *L* Mmm, chocolate and no exercise...

Hmm, that's interesting. I wonder how much water you really do need then. I always drink a ton o water, in fact nothing but water as much as I can--it makes your skin so much more lusterious and is supposed to help with weight loss and keeping your system 'flushed out'. I bet water is one of those things, can't have to much of, ya know. :)
Interesting stuff. :P

You definitely can have too much. You can actually die from drinking too much water... but it'd have to be a LOOOOOOT. lol. It's just a matter of knowing your body and your limitations and needs more then anything. I think.

My water intake fluctuates quite a bit depending on my mood, and my water intake has a rather strong influence on my mood.
It's a rather crazy cycle.

Me too. My kid loves it too, I'm sooo glad for it. Most kids only want sugar filled stuff, and his favorite is water.

My nephrologist (sp?) supports the myth of the water industry. 8 glasses a day. Flush out toxins. And I can so feel it when I don't.

Hmm. *nod* Well, it's good to flush out the toxins, but wouldn't 5 glasses of water be able to do that? I don't know., I think 8's a little excessive.

Water is good for the skin and the rest of your body. I don't know about 64 ounces, though.

My friend said that at boot camp for the air force, they had to drink a gallon of water a day, because they lost so much from exercise.

*wince* It makes sense, but I wish they had been having a bit of gatorade or something too. Something to replace all the electrolytes.

Gatorade is my best friend when I'm ill.

Soooo yummy. I only like ice in water, or in like a iced coffee drink. I don't like it in soda at all.
