*nod* He's pretty cool, and yes, you got first post. :)
i adore mark twain
wise wise man
i love that guy so very much.
that's what i keep trying to tell everyone
In looking for an interesting quote to provide a healthy dose of skepticism I came across this:
Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out…and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel ... and in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man" — with his mouth.
Mankind is the only species that eats when it is not hungry, sleeps when it is not tired, and kills when it doesn't have to.
that kills me.
wow holy crap. I just talked about this on my friend's myspace.
Spread the love, man.
NO EDIT BUTTON ------- BURT BACHARACH! woo
Aww, a sweet, very truthful thought. :)
And I love that song!
I agree on both counts. ;)
Such as Gwenyth's daughter?
Or such as the Apple, in the Garden of Eden that Mark Twain writes about in The Diary of Adam and Eve?
i like the name apple, but only as a middle name... and humans are (hate to copy matrix) a virus... all animals like to feel good though... we are not really THAT special.... a lot of other animals have more instincts involved.
like dolphins... the other mammal that likes sex.
yay for psych 101.
Mark Twain was denounced during his own time as a hack and as bat-shit loco insane for writing narrative in dialect, because, apparently, he was the first person ever to write a book entirely from the point of view of a less-educated narrating character.
Also, how can something that doesn't exist be our most prized possession? There's no universal brotherhood of man, because if there was, racism and war would not occur, at least not to the extent that they do occur.
I'm too worn out to really respond to this. All I have to say is that I feel that there is a universal brotherhood of man, deep down.
He is one of my mom's favorite people.
Me too. it always makes me smile. :)
What I'm gonna shoot for is the lowest common denominator on this one and compare it to a t-shirt I once saw that said, "Bros before hos" which I of course didn't buy because I find that rough and coarse, but you get the point of the comparison. As far as the world needing love right now, I disagree, what the world needs now is revenge!
Wow. Bros before hoes?
Because of perospnal reasons or global?
twain...what a silly last name
You probably already know this so sorry to sound like a know it all, but just in case....he took that name from Mississipi river boat terminology. "Mark twain" is a depth measurement of two fathoms. His actual name was Samuel Clemens.
