If you could go back in time and somehow avert any tragedy in history what incident would you choose to prevent?

The assination of the duke of like i think hungry, that caused ww1, and then the supression of germany, that then caused the apointment as hittler as the leader of germany, and then caused WW2. and then caused japan to enter that then lead to the droping to the atom bomb that led to the cold war that led to the cuban missle crisis, that led to the bay of pigs, that led to a lot more bad stuff.

so ya thats what i would do.

The Holocaust. Although I'm not sure if I'd really call it an "incident"... Visiting the Yad Sarah museum in Israel was one of the most powerful experiences of my life.

I would NOT Stop the Holocaust, because i think, horrible as it was, it did help society. Not like that!! That sounds bead....i just mean that....Now we know it's happened and we use it for examples of horribleness and... i can't explain!!!

I think, if Hitler wouldn't have done what he did...the someone later in time would do the same thing, only they'd be proficientt enough to get away with it and end up killing everyone....i dunno if that makes sense either. It really does in my head and it really isn't a horrible thing to say!!!

...If i were to stop something....it's be a few years ago when my EX-Boyfriend raped a little girl...and if i couldn't go back and stop that i'd go back to when his best friend and i got him addicted to coke before he went to jail and i would've gotten him addicted to something worse and horrible that he would die in jail from not having.

I dunno...See...I keep thinking about it and sure, plenty of things pop into my mind. The thing is..everytime something pops in there, I think about it and decide that we have actually benefitted from it. Everything bad that has happened almost has had some sort of good effect. And with things like the hohocaust..if you would have stopped that from happeneing, there still would have been someone to come along and be Hitler..just with another name. My point is...I don't think I want to change anything because it wouldn't help in the longrun. It might even hurt. You can never know how many things one small thing affected.
Sorry for getting all philosophical on you there. =]

Oh gosh...there are so many "incidents" that are truly tragic and that I have knowledge of in history. I could ramble off a list right now.

I originally was going to say 'nothing', but I know if I had the chance to save a life...even just one 'innocent' life from a painful death, torture, imprisonment, or unnecessary suffering then that would be worth something.

I choose the nameless incident, the one that we are not aware of yet, the one that will be thrust into the light once the area is allowed a voice. I would choose to avert that tragedy. The tragedies we are aware of teach us a lesson, we never want to see them happen again. But just imagine the ones we are not aware of...*trails off* *sprouts her wings and flies away*

I don't really want to imagine the ones we're not aware of. *sigh* It'll make me cry if I think on it too much.

I'd prevent the burning of the Library at Alexandria.

It was the repository of basically all of the knowledge of the world, and it was burned completely to the ground. The bits of old writings and Greek philosophy are just remnants of the vast amount of knowledge that was contained there.

Can you imagine where we might be right now if we hadn't had to start all over from scratch? And so much of the history from before this last millenium--how much more would we know about ourselves and where we come from?

It boggles my mind to think how much it has probably set us back.

I'd prevent Eve from eating the apple.
...No, not really.
Honestly, I'd go back to the beginning of civilization and prevent the start of religion. So many people do terrible things in the name of their gods, and this is really the only way to stop it..

How would it be possible to stop the beginning of religionthough? It's everywhere, in a number of different incantations.

hmph!

I am not so careless or bold to manipulate something as intricate as causality! (jk)

I would stop the Crusades. 200 years of bloodshed between two religions that teach love and brotherhood. All over the right to pilgrim to a city that both religions believe is holy.

*looks down at the "remember... never again" necklace from Houlocaust Museum* Good can come out of tragedy, as someone said before, I would prevent the tragedy that nobody benifited from, protect the unknown victim.

Do you think if that had happened that JFK and RFK would still be with us? Somehow averting the whole Kennedy curse?

And yeah, the Holocaust is a rough thing to place when someone could have gotten involved to truly avert it, because if someone killed Hitler, would someone else have just picked upw here he had left off?

I'm certain your Dad's watching you and with you as we speak.

And your best friend is lucky to have you.
