There are so many that I can't decide.
Okay, maybe not. In terms of recent history, I'd like to prevent GWB from being elected.
*nod* That was my first thought for history in my life time, anyhow.
9/11. Because I strongly believe that's the only reason why we're in Iraq. And it's the only reason Rob was deployed. And the only reason he died.
It's a completely selfish reason. But there you have it.
It's not completely selfish at all.
All of those who have lost family and friends both in the twin towers, and through the U.S's actions since, would absolutely agree with you.
to prevent myself from hurting the ones that i vowed to protect by destroying the monster inside me, or just destroying me....dont ask...
sounds like the movie The Butterfly Effect... exactly
N.S.W winning the last two year's State of Origin :P
More seriously? Johnny Howard and Shrub being re-elected 2004.
the invention of religion
"NO, JESUS! STOP! IT'S A TRAP!"
(the invention of the lightbulb gets second place)
What do you have against lightbulbs? ;)
And I think religion is inevitable..
Its an incredibly selfish answer, but ruining the greatest thing I've ever had in my life by hurting the most wonderful person I've ever known.
Its stupid really, that I think one day and one event could have saved a failing relationship (it's almost teenage angsty of me) but I'd like to think it could.
I understand. I was thinking that I'd give anything to have spent the day before she died with my Mom. Selfish, but it would have made me feel a lot better, to know that she had a good day, before she died.
Now, I don't like fucking with the past because the future could be changed and shit, but if I take myself out of logical thought, I would say I would have liked for Nirvana to not have been sucessful on MTV.
I'd avert the holocaust. But who knows, stopping that could have just allowed Hitler to live on and do worse things.
I don't know what he could have done that would have been worse then the Holocaust.
I'd prevent the Maine from being blown up, because the Spanish-American war was purely a publicity stunt used to gain more land and money by the united states against a crippled foe and led to the murder by americans directly or indirectly of over 5 million indigenous peoples in the carribian and pacific.
Why this and not anythign else? Because every other horrible event in history led to some great good being done either as a result of it or in its name.
I know very little about the Spanish-American war. Now I'm going to go and read up on it. Thank you for informing me a little about the tragedy.
I have a personal tragedy I would change, where this woman took her children into the ocean and I found them and pulled them out with a friend long ago...if I could I would go back and get there before the mom waded in with her children and talked her out of it.
I am a Mother & reading that gave me chills...:(
Ooor maybe the creation of drugly chemicals. They've destroyed enough lives.
I would go back to when my Mom was hit head on by another driver
it changed her forever...I love my Momma no matter what but I miss who she was before the accident as well :(

oh gosh, that's sad.
... wow. If I had a time machine I'd like totally go back 20 years and score with my ex's mum. Not cause I'm bitter or anything.
She's just a hottie.
... That's not averting a tragedy, my dear.

I know. There's so many awful things to choose from.
