To date the worst volcanic eruption occured in 1815, in Indonesia Tambora exploded causing 92,000 deaths most were because of starvation.

yeah, death tolls come from a bunch of factors: lava flow, tephra (which is debris and volcanic ash- it suffocates folks), pyroclastic flow (which are these deathly hot masses of steam that travel at like 1000 mph), mudslides, and poisonous gases.

I really like that you posted this today, because we're learning about volcanoes in geography :D

I've always thought that volcanoes were sooo interesting, I just never want to be around to see one go off.
