It'd be cool if towns were still this way. [Mar. 22nd, 2006|11:29 am]

[music |I love you, you love me..]

In ancient China, towns were often arranged in specific patterns so that if seen from the air the whole community resembled an animal or a symbolic design. The sity of Tsuen-chen-fu was built in the shape of a carp. Wung-chun was laid out in the shape of a fish net. Other towns were arranged to resemble snakes, stars, sunbursts, and dragons.

That would be very cool. Interesting bit of trivia, if you look at Dallas/Fort Worth on a map, it resembles a phallic symbol.

That is really neat, I wonder how hard that must be to do... That reminds me of how in Japan during a festival (I forget which one now) they burn this HUGE shape of a kanji for the festival name on a mountain. It's SO cool looking, and people can see the character in flames for like miles.

That's SO cool! I'm no good at that sort of thing, finding shapes and making them so people can see them from far away. I'm sure impressed when people can, though.

you do realise that they're just doing the bidding of the Tramalfadorians attempting to communicate with Salo on Titan?

Talk about having way too much free time. But then again, I have a livejournal, so I shouldn't be talking.

Nonetheless, that's a very impressive thing to accomplish, especially with ancient technology. There must have been wizards behind this.

I would build a town in the shape of Douglass Adams' left foot. Or maybe Kurt Cobain's right nostril. Just for the sake of being different.

I hadn't heard that about Chinese towns before, but it makes sense. I took a Chinese Art history course back in college and the prof said that they have been building their settlements according to strict patterns pretty much forever. They were always oriented north/south and east/west, and there were strict rules about what went where (no industry stuff near the living spaces, for instance). The cool part was that they've found the same village pattern repeated over and over througout ancient China (or at least the region we were studying). She said it might have neen the earliest form of fung shue (sp?).

how much would you laugh if the Chinease knew something we didnt about people in outter space that the west didnt, and these towns were little messages to crazy little aliens that look like kermit the frog.

Then, when we least expect it, we are invaded by ultra intelligent and powerful muppet characters

God that would be so cool.

that'd be super cool, as long as they were friendly muppet aliens. ;)
