For 30 years, the Greek town of Vostitza on the island of Zante maintained it’s local jailhouse in the trunk of a tree. From 1791 to 1821, the hollow trunk of a giant platan, or plane tree served as their local lockup. The prisoners’ quarters were quite roomy since the treee had a circumference of more then 50 feet.
