[mood |blahblah]
[music |badly dubbed la femme nikita]

In the mid-eighteenth century when socializing in the bathroom was all the rage in France, some well-to-do homeowners installed double bidets that resembled loveseats.

Holy... wow. Um. And I thought talking next to each other in the stalls was awkward.

Wow! Very interesting!!!

Best way to explain a bidet is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bidet

And a love seat is like a mini sofa or couch, just the right size for two people to cuddle.

The French are really into them. They were really fashionable in the 80's but seem to be not as popular now. I really don't thing it is that romantic, washing your bum with a stranger!!

Bidets gross me out to begin with.

But at my school, we have a stall that has two toilets in it. It is unknown if anyone has really used it as buddy time, though.

*blink* That's an interesting design... Maybe for parents who don't want their little kids to be in a stall by themselves? Still, strange.

Do you use it? I've never used one, I'm just curious if it's as strange feeling as it sounds like it would be.

actually, i hate to say it, but i am quite sure that is incorrect.
although the bidet was invented around 1716 the first french
bidet was brought to france around 1816...
which is well into the 19th century. The eras customs and manners
would never allow non related people to use a bidet in front of one
another. Even related people would be hard pressed find within
their sensibilities to do so :D

You know, I was wondering about that. I got it from one of my fact books though, and it was written in 2001 I believe. Hmm. I'll have to do some more research.

eeeeewwww...gross

That's about the least romantic image I can possibly conjour. Too freakin' funny.

SNL did a skit with a simlar idea back in the late 80's. A dual toilet called the "love seat" or something like that.
