One of every 16 African women will die as a consequence of pregnancy whereas 1 in 3700 women in North America will die as a consequence of complications related to pregnancy or childbirth.

It's very rare, but you're pretty tiny. You may need a cesarian because of how small you are, but the chances of you dying in childbirth are damn small. Especially if you don't have a history of it in your family. Show him the numbers? Maybe it'll help?

I think that people of the US are very isolated, many will never leave, and a lot don't even know where Darfur is, so of course they don't know what's going on there. Childbirth is the worst pain we'll ever feel and we'll be fed and cared for after that.

For the people who don't die during child birth, they still live on to sleep in a refugee camp, hoping they won't die the next day, maybe even eat a little.

The disparity is alarming and unacceptable...

A girl born in South Africa has a better chance of being raped than learning how to read.

And folks, that's S. Africa- not Sudan, not Burundi, DRC, Zimbabwe, etc. - South Africa!!!!

That really is a staggering statistic. It can be so easy to be lulled into a false sense that things are mostly right with the world based on our own experiences. But things like this really make reality hit home. Now we just need to get enough people to pay attention so we can fix it.
