[mood |gotta pee]
[music |A reeeeeally BAD movie with Stiletto in the title.]

Until 1893, lynching was legal in the United States. The first antilynching law was passed in Georgia, but it only made the violation punishable by four years in prison.

I am pretty sure that lynching was a form of justice and not the lynching of black people that we are probably thinking of. I think lynching was originally a way for people to carry out death sentences without a legitimate court. Imagine living in a very small and isolated village, and then Bob raped Jane. The village needed justice. The lynching used on black people was a form of terror. I suspect that the anti-lynching law made both forms of lynching illegal (A good thing!) I think... Or I could full of shit and have my facts all mixed up.

Well, for no law to be passed until 1893? Seems about prime time for the lynchings of former slaves, etc.

I don't know. *shrug* I'd be interested in reading more about this if you can find anything to prove or disprove either side.

Regardless, a mob mentality is neeeever good.

Have you seen the movie Rosewood?

In the United States, the use of lethal injection has become standard. From 2001, only 3 out of 273 executions have been by a different method. The last execution by any other method was the use of the electric chair on May 28, 2004 when James Neil Tucker was executed in South Carolina. The last use of the gas chamber occurred on February 24, 1999 when Karl LaGrand was executed in Arizona, the last use of hanging was on 25 January 1996 when Delaware hanged Billy Bailey and the firing squad was also last used in 1996 when John Albert Taylor was shot in Utah on January 26.

*nod* I don't think that you could consider any of those lynchings, though.

Canada's done some dastardly things too.

There was a boat filled with Jewish children ho had escaped from Germany, Poland, etc. and were coming to Canada to seek asylum.

Canada refused them.
