Doctors in Singapore who were curious about the country’s infertility problem discovered that many couples don’t know how to have sex. According to Dr. Ganesan Adaikan of the Society for the Study of Andrology and Sexology, “When a couple does not know how to engage in sexual intercourse, it results in infertility. “

Well, there's one thing America's better at. Great quote too, probably took years to come up with a statement that intelligent.

American's excel at knowing how to have sex. ;) Many start in there early teens! And it really is a great quote. I'm wondering if it's less *LOL* in the original language? If it's just the translation to english? But I still think it's funny. ;)

Not at all. I think it's likely a cultural barrier. It may just be a taboo subject to bring up, likely not taught in schools, and parents don't feel comfortable talking about it to their children, so if you're not at all educated about what to do.. how do you know what to do?

I personally had a "Where did I come from" book when I was a little girl. That's how I learned about the intercourse of intercourse. ;)

so I'm trying to figure out how they knew the couples didnt know how to have sex...did they watch? or maybe they just had the couple explain how they had sex to them...? probably its the second possibility.

I'm thinking it's the second as well. Or perhaps they went into details about how people are supposed to be having sex and the couples were like "Oooh. That's what we're doing wrong!"

At the turn of the last century, most men here in the U.S. didn't even know where babies came from or how they where made. I think this is how the world has such a large surge in population in the last hundred years, education has led to more births, and has kept more people alive. Hopefully we can break past that and perhaps it will be education that leads to less births as well.

Exactly! Well said.

Not that I'm one to talk... since I have a kid. ;)

But I would never have more then three total.

And most likely the next one or two will be adopted when that time comes. I wish more want to be parents were open to adoption, and I wish it was less costly. Luckily in the US you can recoup some of your costs for adoption, but it's still a hard path to travel down. Lots of complications.

Not that there aren't complications and stressors in pregnancy itself. There's pleeeeenty there.

I'm really tired and rambling...

Haha! Well done. :) If I didn't learn about it in my "Where did I come from" book, I definitely would have learned about it in my Mom's trashy romance novels I would always sneak off with because I knew I wasn't supposed to be reading them. hehe

Is that the same study that found men and women thought babies came from literally sleeping together? As in, husband and wife go to bed together, and at some point, the woman gets pregnant.

That quote sounds familiar, which is why I ask. :)

ya know, the amish people have that problem too. My boyfriend was amish before, and he only learned about sex through the television after he became normal again, I guess you could say. So maybe singapore people just don't have the media all explainin about it. Or maybe they don't watch television.

I know lots of people who are great at sex that are terrible parents. Maybe it's good that they're not focused on their sexuality so much and have time for other things?

I think it is that some Asian cultures are still highly repressed in the sexual arena, so kids don't get taught the mechanics of sex. Heck, I have a 31 year old Chinese friend who doesn't know how to masturbate! Her parents were/are very tight-lipped about sex. Even being born and raised here (USA) didn't help her become aware of the ways of wanking (schlicking?). I can only imagine the consequences of being raised in a repressed society.
