Felix Lope de Vega Carpio, the renowned Spanish dramatic poet born in 1562, wrote an estimated 1,500 plays - not to speak of countless poems, epics, and prose works. Of these 1,500 plays about 500 survive. De Vega penned his first drama at the age of 11 while a student at a Jesuit school. From that moment on, he poured out a torrent of theatrical works the like of which has never been equaled.

I don't know about most people only rememebering literary works if they read them in school... Someone else commented that the reason he wasn't so acclaimed was because his writing wasn't very good. Have you read any of his work?
