I feel ya. My Dad just had surgery to remove a huge piece of melanoma from his face, so it just got me thinking and a friend sent this to me, so i thought it was worth sharing.

I need to get on these 7 things as there is a history of heart disease, colon cancer and, now, breast cancer in my family. (I know it was about cancer, but these are still pretty good for the heart!)
I actually didn't know that a plant-based diet was supposed to help decrease the risk of cancer.
I got into a quibble with a woman at work a few weeks ago about this fact. It was the Halloween party and was getting food from the kitchen and someone remarked how the calzones were eggplant, so I mentioned that I could eat them. And she asked if I was vegetarian and she ended up telling me her husband had been vegetarian because his sister was and that his sister ended up dying of breast cancer. So her husband stopped being vegetarian. I was irritated because she actually thought that being vegetarian wasn't healthy and I think it has be more healthy than eating burgers everyday, not that you can't eat meat and be healthy, but I don't think being vegetarian is un-healthy! Ugh.
I hope that made sense. It was just awkward for me.
Woooow. What a lame reason not to be a vegetarian. His sister probably lived longer because she was one. It's a looooot healthier. I'm a vegetarian myself and I'm raising my son as one too. And he hardly ever gets sick. I think it's a huge part of it, honestly.
There are lots of things that can cause cancer. Vegetarins is not one of them. As long as you know ow to ballance a vegatarian diet properly, its perfectly healthy.
I try so hard to live slower but it just seems to never go that way. I think I have too many factors going on and it's just very bad overall. Thanks for the advice.

Is it wrong that I've accepted the fact that I will die of cancer? Everyone in my family seems to. On the bright side, the majority of them got cancer in their 70s and 80s. Still a good long life.

I have issues with the sleep one. Now, of course a good night's rest is a good thing. But first of all, what's wrong with reading in bed? I grew up reading in bed. And don't a zillion parents read their children to sleep? We are raised reading in bed. I don't get it. I wish they had elaborated on that. Secondly, I went to bed at 10 last night even though I wasn't ready to sleep. However, I'd been consistently getting under 6 hours of sleep, so I decided going to bed early was a good idea. Are they telling me I should have waited until 2 am to sleep because that's when I would have been tired, even though it would have meant a significantly smaller amount of sleep?

Yeah, that's the main one I took issue with too, actually. I read to my son just about every night, and usually myself as well. lol. Or I play on the interwebz.. Lord knows I spend way too much time on here, but oh well.
I thought the rest of the info was good enough that it was worth posting something I didn't fully agree with.
I'll tell you, honestly, I hate to medicate but I would never get any sleep if I didn't take sleeping pills. Just simply sleep, by the folks who make tylenol. It's a hell of a lot cheaper then the seroquel I'm prescribed and I don't usually feel hungover in the morning, like I do of seroquel.
I had acupuncture to help my insomina. It helped for a little while but I have an infant. So he messed up my sleep shedual again. Though one of the things I've found is I actually feel more rested if I get 6 hours of sleep then if I get 8. Different people need different amounts. I also find I sleep better around sunrise. Unfornately thats not usually a viable option. I'd sugesst you try acupuncture. and maybe test trying to go to sleep at different times to see what works best for you. Just remember you need more then 3 hours a night to avoid sleep deprivation.

Thanks for posting this! It all seems like common sense, but it's still great to see in black and white.
in my health book (and several psych books i have read) it said that in studies, people with cancer who were prayed for did WORSE than people who were not prayed for. even the people who were just told they were bring prayed for did worse than those that were not told they were being prayed for and actually were.
yay science disproving god.

p.s. getting all your nutrients from plants could actually hurt your brain over time. the protiens from plants are less complete than from meats, our brain's connections are slowed when meat is taken out of our diet... over time of course.
and women should eat more red meat... many young women are anemic and don't even know it because they don't eat iron rich foods, like red meat.
men eat so much meat statistically, that they should eat less for their heart.

That's actually complete bullshit. Those are lies that the meat industry want you to believe.
Show me any proof.
Vegetarians as a whole are MUCH healthier then their meat counterparts.. and in my experience generally more intelligent.
And there's plenty of iron rich foods that are not meat.
Eating meat is terrible for the environment as well. The carbon imprint of meat eaters is through the roof.
Honestly the only way this world is going to have any chance of succeeding is if everyone cuts back on their meat intake by about 90% in the next one hundred years. It's terrible for the environment to eat meat, not to mention for your health.
In my personal experience that is complete bullshit.
Those in my life who have been ill, I don't think would be here if it weren't for prayers.
The only way I think that is even POSSIBLE is if people who were told they were being prayed for stopped taking their medication, or taking preventative measures because they figured prayers would do it all.
Prayer is an extremely powerful force in my life experience.
i was gonna ignore this, cause i am sure that prayer makes you feel better or whatever.
but it really annoys me when people say "oh thank god" when people get better or doctors successfully perform an operation or you yourself have done something great.
as far as the doctors go... i would hate to hear that all the time! doctors save people... not prayers.
and if you have done something great, YOU have done something great, not god allowing you to do something great... that is silly..
but if it makes you feel better to pray or be prayed for... by all means, do it... but prayer is just words, just placebo... ridiculous.
I disagree completely. Most Doctors believe in prayer that I've come in contact with too. We're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

As have I. Depends on the study and the bias going into it. I imagine both sides have a bit of bias, wanting to prove or disprove.
Small babies and insomina are not a good mix for getting enough sleep.
Also studies in lab mice have shown eating 100 times your weight in anything per day will give you cancer.
Excessive sun burns give you cancer as well. my dad gets skin cancer 2 or 3 times a year. When he was a child he got a lot of sun burns.
My Dad's fighting the melanoma issue right now too. Very stressfull. :(
