[mood |distresseddistressed]
[music |Dexter Season 2, ep 1]

So I need some advice.

Last night my boyfriend was at a club and his cell phone was stolen/lost. He got into a verbal altercation with the bouncer who kicked him out of the club and told him to come back when the club was closed. He did, and the bouncer started beating him up when he tried to enter the club to find his phone. The police came and maced him, then handcuffed him and AFTER handcuffing him, they tazed him.

They brought him down to a metropolitan city jail. They charged him with disorderly conduct and then while in an interrogation room, four white cops beat the crap out of him, while screaming racial expletives. ( My boyfriend is black.)

He's got a court date set, in a couple of weeks, not leaving him time to find much for proper representation, and he's very upset about what happened but is reluctant to get a lawyer and press charges because of the possible repercussions.

Have any of you gone through a similar situation? Can you offer any advice on how to proceed? I'm freaking out. Is Legal Aid open on Sunday?

Help? I am just so sick about this. My boyfriend is a good man, intelligent, not violent in anyway. He would not have provoked anyone into this, and even if he had this is unacceptable. It is not 1961. It's 2008 and this can't happen.

Here's your random fact of the day:

Mary Queen of Scots, the first known female golfer, coined the term “caddy” in 1552, calling her assistants cadets. During her reign, the famous golf course at St. Andrews was built.

And your youtube:

Ice skating bloopers. Even these couldn't make me smile.

He needs to go to an ER. You need documentation of abuse. I mean take photos. Witnesses. Etc. Anything... And if he has a witness to what the bouncer said to him about coming back to look for his phone later, then he needs to contact them.
He needs a lawyer big time. He really does.
(((hugs)))
I don't blame you for being sick about this. It's horrible!

And then you move. Out here.

This is a really liberal state. This isn't what I'd expect here at all.

And I told him he needs to go to the Doctor. I'm going to go with him, make sure pictures are taken and documented. It sucks, because I have to call him on his friends phones to get ahold of him, because even after all that he didn't get his phone back.

This is just so much fucking insanity. What is happening to our world?

Not gonna say. Still working on a bit of anonymity. A blue one though. One you wouldn't expect something like this.

I don't have any other advice than to contact the ACLU or a similar organisation, cause that shit ain't right. >( It's like they beat him just for following instructions.

You have my sympathy.

Thank you hon. I think tomorrow I'm going to try and contact Legal Aid, ACLU AND the NAACP. Fuck this. This is not acceptable and can't be allowed to happen.

I sent this to my mom. She's a lawyer and will hopefully have useful answers. I am so sorry to hear about this. I live in one incredibly liberal city and go to school in another one, so it always shocks me to hear about things like this.

Actually, she's IMing me right now. She says to call the ACLU and the National Lawyers Guild. I'll let you know if she says anything else. Good luck. I hope this helps.

It does. Thank you SO much. *HUGS* I have never even heard of the National Lawyers Guild. Does she think someone might pick it up pro-bono? We're both broke.

Judging by one of your comments, I'm assuming he's not still in custody. Honestly, I'd go to the ER A.S.A.P. just to get everything documented. Bruises go away. Get pictures of EVERYTHING. Bruises, scratches, etc.

Is there any way you can get the bouncers name? You definitely need to press charges against him, as well.

Yes, there are scumbag cops. But, there are some very good ones. Don't let the bad cause you or your boyfriend any fear because most agencies (that I know of) will take this kind of thing very seriously. And, honestly, I'd say get on the ball NOW. Lodge a complaint with the department to put these assholes into suspension or something until the hearing.

I know you want to remain anonymous, and IIRC, you were somewhere not near me. But, if my memory is wrong and you happen to be in California, feel free to PM me. My dad's an attorney and knows plenty of attorneys in other areas. He may actually know one where you are, even if you're not in the same state. He was in the Army for almost 40 years and knows people everywhere.

*hugs*

His Foster Mom paid bail. He got out this afternoon.

I'm going to make sure he's brought to the Doctor to have this all documented.

I'm sure we can get the bouncers name. And there's witnesses to the macing, handcuffing and tazing in that order. The racial expletives weren't used in front of anyone but cops. So there's no unbiased witnesses to that.

Do you think they'll put them on suspension? I would hope so but I'm worried about if the police that are suspended will hurt him. They all ready did. What will they do next? I'm scared.

Thank you so much, honey. *hugs*

I can't even believe how wrong that is. Definitely contact the ACLU or any other legal organization that you can find. You might want to make an account at www.abovetopsecret.com and post in the political issues or current events forum-- for every crazy person with a new conspiracy or something about reptilian aliens there's at least 2 on that website with genuine good knowledge about what to do when this shit happens, and they definitely will help you out.
http://www.cuapb.org/HomePage.asp this organization may be of help, I don't know much about them though.
http://www.policewatchers.com/ you can file incidents on this site, it looks like if you enter details of what happened they'll provide you with fee legal advice as well.
Don't let your boyfriend do nothing! I can definitely understand not wanting to because of the repercussions but that sort of thing can't tolerated.
Good luck, I hope he recovers soon.

Thank you SO much, hon! *HUGS* I wish it was a weekday so I could contact these places for tomorrow, but I know what I'll be doing Monday morning. Making a lot of calls.

That's a really good idea about the blogs, too. I will definitely do this.

Something has to be done. I will not sit by and let this happen to someone I love without their being repercussions. Screw that. My boyfriend deserves justice for this.

Hugs to both of you, and I hope that something positive comes of all the supportive comments you've received! DON'T sit and take it, nobody should have to.

And kudos to you, for posting random stuff in the midst of all this personal trauma! Mary Queen of Scots would be proud. I guess she would. I never met her. But if I were a queen, I'd be proud.

what the shit!
i mean
what?!
i can't believe it actually happened. the worst racism we see here is verbal or bureaucratic, more or less (norway). and i can't believe that in 2008, this would happen. i know it does, i know. but i just don't understand. NOW is certainly not the time to alienate someone, we're on the brink of world fuck-up here. this is simply beyond my comprehention.
all the best to you guys, fight it!!
everyone before me said act super quickly and i would suggest exactly the same. ER is open all night, isn't it?
keep us updated.
YOU CAN DO IT!
