Fans, Ills, and Subway thrills. [Sep. 17th, 2008|02:30 pm]

[mood |sicksick]
[music |coughing]

In the Victorian era, fans were the ultimate playful props that could communicate all sorts of messages. A fan placed near the heart meant, You have won my love. A half-opened fan pressed to the lips suggested, You may kiss me. Hiding the eyes behind an open fan meant, I love you, while opening and closing the fan several times warned, You are cruel.

ETA: ARGH! I totally DID post it before. I'm sorry guys. I'm SO scatterbrained. I usually delete my factoids out from my random fact document once they're posted.. but apparently I didn't. *bangs head against wall* Here. Have another one!

Introduced in 1971, the Kenbak-1 is generally considered to be the world's first personal computer. Designed by John V. Blankenbaker, the Kenbak-1 included 256 bytes of memory, ran at an operating speed of about 1MHz, and sold for $750. Unlike many earlier machines it was a true stored-program (Von Neumann) computer. Unfortunately for Blankenbaker, the world wasn't quite ready for the personal computer. After selling only 40 machines, the Kenbak Corp. was forced to go out of business in 1973.

And one for everyone... what was the most recent ailment you were diagnosed with.

Bronchitis for me.

And a subway prank. Fun.

I hope it wasn't here! lol. That'd be soo sad if I started repeating posts because I've been away so long.

And right? It's vile. All I'm gonna say is vomiting phlegm is even worse then it sounds.

And lucky! This started as a cold and then I guess made a deal with satan to settle in my chest. I just have a pretty poor immune system I think. I've got a kidney infection too, so I think my body was dealing with that and the cold seized power.

In my most recent encounter with the NHS, my doctor refused to diagnose me with allergy - "'cause if it's the cat, what are you going to do? throw it out?"

I tried to argue that if we would find out the cause of the symptoms first, then I could deal with the cat later, if and when it turned out to be the cat.

She didn't buy that argument. Weird, considering she's german.

Glad to hear it. Congrats on quitting smoking! *hugs* I think this bronchitis might be the last little push I need. We'll see. So what exactly is hypothyroidism? I feel like I should know, but I don't.

Pregnancy...
Actually I think the last time I was actually diagnosed as having anything, it was the gestational diabetes. That was shortly after being diagnosed as pregnant though! :D

Ugh. Bronchitis is no fun. My most recent ailment was a cold, so not a big deal. I usually try and ignore it when I'm sick anyway.

I try too, but then it usually spirals into something worse. lol. I'm not a good example of ignore it and it'll go away. I've had bad luck in that department.

OH man!! My kid had thrush I think when he was born, because he had to be on some antibiotics but I thought it only happened to little ones. I didn't know adults could get it! That's crazy!! What do they do for adults with it? And is it awful? It seemed awful when he had it, but he was too little to tell me details of it's ickiness. *hugs*

I'm home sick with a cold today. Aside from not being able to move from the couch, it's fabulous. I've caught up on The Closer and ate a banana split for breakfast. If only I didn't have to keep blowing my nose every three seconds.

A tilted pelvis/uterus. Funfunfun.

And yes, vomiting phlegm definitely ISN'T fun. I can barely cough it up, so doing that is like.. torture, really.

Also, recently (and also a few years ago) I end up getting sick every morning WITHOUT FAIL (not pregnant, however) so I need to get that checked out. Eventually. It's progressed though to getting sick intermittently throughout the day, then feeling absolutely fine until it happens again. It's really wierd.

I wasn't really diagnosed with anything, but last time I saw a doctor of any kind, he gave me glasses to wear while on the computer or reading. That was a long time ago, and they got stolen after the first few weeks; I couldn't afford new ones. My vision is much poorer now. :(
