One of Margaret Rudkin's sons suffered from severe asthma, a condition that became worse when he ate processed food. She couldn't find any bread that didn't make him ill, so in 1935 she started baking him stone-ground whole weat bread. One day she brought a loaf to the boy's doctor; he liked it so much he began recommending it to other patients. After building up a small mail-order business to local asthmatics and allergy-sufferers she expanded her customer base to inlude people who weren't ill-- and named her company after the family's 125 acre farm in Connecticut -- Pepperidge Farm.

I grew up with asthma that reacted to processed food, too. Especially bleached flour, white sugar and red dye #40 especially... but bleached flour and sugar both contain properties which force the body to produce extra mucous as well as thickens that mucous... which is not great for allergy sufferers. Dairy products have a similar effect as well, though.

Nah,.. just when I can afford to. My asthma symptoms lessened a lot after puberty, its not the problem now that it was before.

Very interesting. I liked Pepperidge farm bread when I could eat wheat.
I have allergies. My kids have allergies. My niece's kids have allergies. Food coloring and processed food are really bad for lots of people. Look at the generation that grew up on trans fat?

Cool video. I don't know why there are so many chemicals in our food. Do we really need to inject chicken with hormones or eat 20 different types of dye. How pretty do we need our food to be? Kids are hitting puberty quicker because of all the checmicals in the food and lack of exercise.

Agreed entirely. One more reason I'm a vegetarian, and try to avoid too much food that's been messed with.

Beautiful. Not to be a dork, but its my fondest wish that someday I'll find someone who's just as geeky as I am. Its a plus if they're also hot ;)

And not to be elitist, but dorks are the most interesting people, hands down. They're into whatever it is that interests them, and to hell with what's popular. I'm proud to a nerd. I think its a good thing. Geeks, nerds, dorks...whatever you call them, they're the people that society can't easily pigeon-hole and understand with a simple label. I love that. Give me more ;)

Yay! Geeklove!! =) I'm very fortunate, my guy is (almost) as much of a geek as me. There's plenty of geek guys and girls out there, and I'm sure you'll find the right one. And have a very geeky wedding. ;)
