Scylla was once a beautiful maiden until she was changed into a snakelike monster by the sorceress Circe. She lived in a cave high up on a cliff, from where she was known to thrust forth her long necks (she had six heads), and in each of her mouths seize one of the crew of every vessel passing within reach. According to legend, she murdered six of the companions of Ulysses, and tried to wreck the ships of Aeneas until she was turned into a rock.

OMG that was hilarious. I deal with some people like that sometimes over the phone. But these people are calling about admission requirements to my university!!!!

I actually keep notes of students that tell me that they are going to lie on their applications and then I check their applications. If I see any discrepancies I notify the admissions office and they get sent a letter requesting those transcripts. 9 out of 10 transcripts will let the admissions processors know when a student "omitted" stuff from their applications.

O my god...
You know what, if everyone who has never worked at a call center spent some time listening to terrible customer calls, I think they would understand why they might come across a rude or impatient service agent once in awhile.

Yes,.. I know, its fucking annoying that we have to verify a call/problem/model information before helping... but it only takes as long as YOU make it take. Man... and there wasn't even a sheepish apology when the guy fixed his problem in 2 seconds flat! God... I hate people. At least once a month you get a customer like that.. a customer with no decency or decorum and has no idea that you at least deserve to be treated like a human being, no matter how frustrated you are... because no matter how frustrated the customer is, I can bet you the service agent is twice as frustrated if they are even halfway through their shift. heh

Oh I can relate. When I worked at a call center I had some doozies. Including a woman who threatened to kill herself. I had to get a supervisor on the line and keep her calm while a different superviser called the police.

Suicide calls are pretty common,.. its amazing. I never had one myself,... but I know several people who have. I had someone attacked while I was one the phone and I had to call the cops for them. Lots of lots of swindlers, lots of totally crazy assholes, lots of lame people who just went nuts on me,... but then again, I have also talked to lots and lots of cool people. I wonder if they remember fondly the cool chick at the phone company/cable company/etc etc etc. Hehe

I'm working at a call center right now, and that call isn't surprising at all. What DOES surprise me is that someone would call in asking for help, and somehow think that being rude and abrasive would be a good strategy. Duh? You want MY help, and you're going to curse at me? Not too bright.
