okay, now you MUST explain your ghostly encounters.
i've never had one (that i know of) and thank whoever for that because i would probably DIE of a massive heart attack. no joke. i'm a huuuuge baby when it comes to that type of thing. i'm seriously scared of ghosts or potential ghosts in a very bad way. i should probably seek therapy for it :)
Oh Lord. All right, I'll tell one of them now because if I tell them out I'll scare myself. lol. They were both really f'ng scary.
All the women in my family are really receptive to the spirit world. Some are glad for the "gift" others.. feel it's a curse. I'm in the latter category. lol. It freaks me out.
So your choice. Little girl ghost or dorm ghost?
Or if you want I can give you familial ghost encounters of my family that are even scarier then mine. The molesting ghost, or the knife ghost.
You get to pick from any of the above four. lol
Yes, I've had ghost encounters. I'm usually underwhelmed. XD I've been able to see ghosts since I was born (confirmed by my mom, who related my youngest encounters, that were before my permanent memories) so they're just like anything else in the world to me. ^_^;
What kind of ghosts do you usually see? The ones I've encountered are really distressed. I saw my first ghost at 4, and think I may have seen more as a child, but only one that was confirmed and my Mom saw it with me, we both remembered it clear as day.
I have never had a ghostly encounter, though I have a friend who is a medium. or whatever the term is for someone who senses ghostly activity. she arranges a local ghost tour in providence and is a delightful lady.
There was this series of books (and games) called Girl Talk - do you remember them? they had one book that was the girls going on a lip-syncing game show, lol i always wanted to do one.
Oh, that's cool! :) She enjoys her abilities, then?
-- And I had a Girl Talk game, I never knew there were books too! But that sounds really fun. lol. ;) I remember playing a girl talk game where you had to like admit to doing things that werent very good, and I would play with my friends I was in a show with and none of us wanted to say that we sang off key so we'd fight over who had to do that one. haha
I've never had a real ghost thingy, but a few months ago I started hearing this noise in my bedroom that sounded like a balloon popping randomly every few days/weeks/months, with no explainable reason. It wasn't anything electrical that I could find and there was never a balloon in my room, and every time it happened my dog would jump up and run out of the room. It was really strange. I haven't heard it in a long time, though, so maybe whatever it was gave up and left.
Oooh, that's interesting. And a little freaky. It's really fascinating to watch how animals respond to supernatural things.
I've seen spirits all of my life, only I pushed them and the thought away until I got older. I started reading the tarot online for random people and this man showed up and wouldn't go away. So I politely told the gentleman that I was speaking with that I had a spiritual encounter with someone he knows.. the man told me to keep on - so finally I saw glass shattered and a gun shot and I couldn't understand the correlation between them both. Turns out the man just lost his partner/sherrif in a stakeout and the man they were trying to get out of the house shoved his shotgun through a glass window and shot his partner. It was fucking surreal.
The second real time was I was reading tarot for this lady and this little boy showed up in the most brilliant shining golden light - and I had to tell her - asked if she lost a son or a little brother and she started bawling and I told her that it's okay that he's fine and doing great and there was nothing to worry about. It was a profound experience for sure!
There are times when less than disired spirits show up and I politely tell them that they are not welcome and I ask them to leave. People forget that we have the ultimate autority when it comes to stuff like that. It may give us the willies - but we are in control. We are still in the flesh. xo
First off, I love the hell out of your icon. So pretty!
Now on to what you had to say. hehe. ;)
And that's really interesting. You do this all online, then? Like you'd be able to read my tarot and tell me something about me?
Isn't it a great site?
And do you not believe people when they tell you about their own specific experiences? How do you explain them? I'm not attacking, I'm just really curious. :)
I wanna hear the knife ghost story!!
Oh, all right. ;)
My Mom and her first husband had just moved into a new ( to them, it was built in about 1860) house they were renting. Like.. JUST moved in, the day before. My sister was a baby, about 8 months old, and my Mom and her husband hadn't unpacked their own bedroom yet. They had got everything in order for my sister first, and the kitchen and living room but everything else was still a bit of a mess, so they were sleeping on the pull out couch in the living room. My Mom woke up to the upstairs toilet being flushed.... they were she and her husband were the only adults in the house, and he was asleep beside her.
She sat up in bed, and froze as she saw a heeled boot making it's way down the stairs, along with the full 1800's style black skirt.. and she just watched as more and more of the body of this woman came down the stairs. One arm was down, the other raised, and she couldnt see what was in the hand until after she saw the womans face. She was in her fifties, grey/brown hair pulled back in a severe bun, and she had just an evil look on her face, and a glint in her eye. A smile on her lips that my Mom would tell me was the definition of Evil. And she walked toward my Mom, in slow, itty bitty steps. Finally my Mom was able to scream, and her husband woke up and saw her just as the woman was about 3 feet away getting ready to stab them. As soon as he woke up, she backed away, and climbed back up the stairs, slowly. My Mom ran after her as soon as she realized she was going up the stairs to my sister. My sisters door was open, and when my Mom got in there, the ghost was gone, but my sisters mobile was spinning out of control and my sister was crying.
They moved the next day.
My Mom must have told me the story a dozen times and not a single detail ever changed.
My last experience with a ghost was the day my maternal grandmother died. I was just waking up and I saw her standing there clear as a crystal. I said "Hazel, you just died didn't you?" She nodded and disappeared. Mom got the call a few minutes later. Hazel and I were very close but I wish she'd visited mom instead. They never were quite right with each other.
I clicked to empower. :)
Were you close to your Maternal Grandma? Maybe she figured she'd set things right for her once she was gone?
My Mom visited my Aunt after she died. I think she knew I'd freak out if she visited me, but it would have been nice all the same.
And yay empowering! :)
I live in a house from 1835 and my mum reportedly has seen a lady in a grey 1860s gown standing over my brother's crib. I live in that room now and weird stuff has happened to me: the door openening and closing repeatedly, things going missing and reappearing elsewhere in the house, whispers, an inexplicable cold spot on the hottest days. That's not to say weird stuff doesn't happen elsewhere in my house: my dad was home alone and once felt someone slap him.
I've kind of made peace with my ghost because I don't really think she's harmful, she's just a pest.
Oh wow!!! That sounds like the creepy lady with the knife my Mom ran into, excepet maybe her ghost was your ghosts angry cousin. lol. Slapping though?
I don't like it when ghosts cross over and you can feel any encounter by them. That's scary. I don't like that.
I definitely believe in this kind of stuff, and have had encounters where spirits of some kind moved physical objects around me (heavy blinds being slammed against the sill, doors opening and shutting, doorknobs being turned, the sound of footprints on carpet, etc.), but I am so incredibly OUT of tune with the supernatural that that's the only way I'm even aware of their presence. My roommate can kind of sense stuff like that, but we've been in the same room with spirits before, and I had no idea they were even there.
I'll take it as a blessing, for sure. I think if I could sense this kind of stuff, I'd be scared of the dark. :)
PS: I'm curious about your second ghost. Story?
ME TOO! Isn't it so scary when they move shit around you!? I freaked the hell out. lol.
I'm way to in- tune. I wish I wasn't quite as receptive to the spirit world.
And I am a little scared of the dark because of my encounters. lol.
And all right, second story is dorm story.
I was living in a dorm, where many many years previous there had apparently been a suicide. I didn't find that out until well after shit started going down. I had my own room, and I started having nightmares of a man being hung, and I'd wake up and have just these flashes of an image of a man hangng from my ceiling, not connected to anything, but like an invisible noose. Right over my bed. Like his feet where about 4 inches from my stomach. After a few weeks of this it was about 15 seconds before he'd dissapear, at the point where he'd show himself the longest. He was also a bit of a poltergeist and would move my stuff all the time, but when he'd get mad like if I left school and stayed at a friends house, or in a friends dorm room instead of coming back to my own room every night, he'd be pissed... so he'd show me it, and would flicker my Christmas lights that I had around my window, and he'd do stuff just to freak me out like picking up a paper from my desk and slowly lowering it to the ground, one after another until my stack of paper was in backwards order. I told the maintenance and housing people where I was going to school what was going on, but they pretty much just ignored me. Then one day I left my key on my bed just to run and chat with a friend who had just come back from a funeral.. and I turned to go back to my room after we were talking, and my door was closed.
Not only was my door closed, but it was bolted shut. And the only way to use that particular deadbolt was from inside. I got maintenance.. they opened my door..a nd there was no one that could be seen in my room, and the windows were all closed, and I was up 3 floors anyway. No trees for anyone to climb or anything.
After THAT happened, I was allowed to move into a room that someone had vacated in the dorm.
It was much freakiness.
My two younger brothers have both passed on and I've had encounters with both of them - sometimes in dreams and sometimes when I'm awake. I don't always "see" them (although I have seen my youngest brother on occasion), but I feel them. I've also encountered people I don't know. I seem to be particularly sensitive to people who have died in car accidents - I see glimpses of them standing near where accidents have happened. I've also sensed "bad energies" and had to "clear" them from myself and my family, but I've had really good encounters as well. It's just something I've gotten used to.
I'm so sorry about your brothers. Were their visits helpful and healing?
And regarding bad energies.. that's something I run into a lot. Where I don't see the spirit, but I know it's dark and dangerous. How do I go about "clear"ing that sort of thing? I just don't know where to start but I know I have the ability to see spirits, so I would think I'd have the ability to influence them as well, right?
I can't say that I ran into a ghost for certain...but I did run into something when I was a child. Pardon me if it's a tad long, but I have included narrative I wrote about it some time back.
If you are so inclined, you can find it at: http://badasher.livejournal.com/50786.html
Oooh, very scary experience!! You said in your entry that you've ran into him again, past this point? Does he haunt you in nightmares mostly, or do you see him in experiences like the one you described?
Anything related to spirits or ghosts fascinates me so much. When I was younger me and my friends used to hunt for ghosts around our old school building, but I've never had any experience of seeing one. I think I'm just too skeptical to see that sort of thing, though in a way I wish I could (the phrase 'careful what you wish for' comes to mind right now)
I'm amazed so many people have had encounters on this thread! Can you tell us any more of your experiences? The Knife story scared the heck out of me, have you had any positive encounters? I wonder if you have ever considered your experiences to be tricks of the mind? If I ever saw a ghost I would think I was hallucinating just because I'm too doubtful and disbelieving as a person.
Well, the one with the little girl, I wasn't alone, and my Mom saw the same thing. -- The other one I had, which I posted about earlier with the dorm.. there was physical proof. I had left my keys in my room and the room was locked from inside, with my keys still inside, while I was talking to a friend. lol. My Aunt and my sister both have had positive ghost experiences. My Aunt actually saw my Mom after she died and she told her that everything was all right, and that she was happy, and my sister saw her Grandma after she died. The crazy thing is that they both saw them in the same room of the same house, but like 30 years apart..
thats a really awesome site, the clicking for battered women! Im glad to see that people make it convenient for others to take a role in making a difference.
Have you been to www.freerice.com ? Answer mildly easy vocabulary questions and each right answer will donate 20 grains of rice to the hungry. Its really easy, fun, and can do a lot of good.
and no, no ghost visits for me. Im open to the possibility of it, but i havent actually experienced it yet.
Oh I sure have! It's a great site. :) This was one I'd never posted here before.
*nod* You can have my next ghost visit if you like. lol. ;)
As "materialist" as I am in my philosophy, I'm pretty sure I did see a ghost once. When I was 20 we lived in this rental house and I had the back room. It was always kind of cold and just uncomfortable in there. Then one night I woke up and there was this pulsing white light. It sort of coalesced into a old man who was standing at the foot of my bed and staring at me. I got the distinct impression he didn't like me and wanted me gone. I slapped myself, rubbed my eyes, squeezed them shut for a while and then re-opened...he was still there. I was so freaked I just closed my eyes and repeated "go away" and then when I opened them he was finally gone.
For years I figured I just dreamt the whole thing. Then several years later, my little brother (who got the room when I moved out) told me the exact same story. I hadn't ever talked about that to anyone, and his description of the old guy was dead on. How weird is that?
That's REALLY scary. Was it in the same room? Very freaky. My main issue is I can't say anything when Im that scared. I can barely breathe and my voice just... seizes up.
Mostly all of my sightings and experiences have been totally benign spirits, or even friendly and helpful ones.
Just randomly... I was staying in an house with a friend of my mother's, to help her with her baby during her second pregnancy. Her house was old and inherited from her uncle, and her grandfather had built it.
It had sort of a railroad floor plan on the lower level, where you could sit on the living room couch, (where I was, reading), and see clearly all the way through to the back mudroom entry, on the opposite side of the house. I happened to look up and saw a man in a work uniform with a name patch walk in through the back door. He had on heavy black framed eyeglasses and had wavy black hair. I saw him very clearly, and - indeed - still remember his features photographically perfectly now, nearly forty years later.
Well he came in, walking like a man coming home from a long hard day, looked around briefly. He came through the kitchen towards me, into the dining room, turned at the stairs and climbed slowly up. He never made eye contact with me nor acknowledged me.
Why I did not confront him I don't know. I just sort of sat there lumpen, in a daze. I suddenly realized there was something wrong with this picture, and went upstairs, where my friend was playing with her baby in the room at the end of the hallway... I looked in every room on my way up. No man to be seen. When I got to her, I asked her where the man went - and she got this wild, terrified look on her face. Eventually she calmed down and asked me what he looked like, and calmed still further when she heard the description. She got out a photo album and asked if I saw a photo of him in it. I turned a few pages and found a black and white portrait of him in a suit, with the same sharp features and greasy black longish hair, like he'd been too long between hair cuts and was trying to compensate by laying the brylcreem on too heavily. I pointed him out, and she said, "That's Uncle Lester." Only thing was, Uncle Lester had been dead since before I was born. Apparently she was more than a little aware of his visits. She told me that she was waking up at night with him standing over her pretty often. Also he seemed to be not particularly happy with some repair work her husband had been doing, and they would lie in bed at night listening to him and a few other relatives who had passed on, commenting on how the job was proceeding.
We moved into a four story house back when the babies numbered three. My then two and a half year old son started talking about this blond woman named Janice and her husband Earl, who always dressed in flannel shirts and bib overalls. He said they would sometimes play with him down in the basement. I figured "Invisible Friends" and didn't think much of it, until my husband started saying that he was hearing voices in the boy's bedroom at night... adult voices. And when he'd go in, there was no one there. He said, though, that they were kind voices, and only talking about the boys and how sweet they were, and how nice it was to have them visiting, and that sort of thing.
Eventually, a few months down the road, we got to talking to our neighbors and they started talking about how they had been such good friends with the people who had owned the house prior to our moving in - an elderly couple named Janice and Earl! I asked for descriptions and Janice was a blond who kept dying her hair up into her sixties. Her husband Earl had passed on just a few months before she did, both of heart trouble, both in their sixties. I did ask a few more things, claiming to have found a photograph. I didn't want them to think we were nuts! The descriptions matched. We stayed in that house for three years and there were never any problems with Janice and Earl. My son, now 27, doesn't remember them at all, which surprises me, since apparently their visits were daily.
Oh my Gosh!!! I've never heard of ghosts commenting on whats going on in the present! That's so cool!!!
And your son having ghosts as invisible friends totally freaks me out. It's cool that Janice and Earl were so nice and not a problem couple of ghosts, but what if there had been scary ghosts? I can't handle the idea of scary ghosts talking to my child. lol. Maybe I'm overprotective, or hae seen too many horror movies or whatever but it makes senset hat it could go reeeally bad.
I wish I had less distressed ghosts in my history that I see, but for some reason I always seem to draw the scary ones. Amazing stories, though.
Yes. I am sensitive to ghostly presences. I can feel them...and it's a sensation that someone is watching you and in my mind I can see what they look like. Lately it's been mostly shadows near or around my house. A few summers ago...they were scaring me so much so that I couldn't sleep at all. I had to do a cleansing in my house (basically I blessed the house with holy water and used sea salt at the door and told them they can't enter my house without my permission).
It's kind of scary....my mom and son are both sensitive. I'm not psychic (more like psycho...lol) other wise I'd be rich right now.
Oh wow!! That sounds like me when I hd my dorm ghost. I never slept, it was hell!! I should have done that, it would have been realy cool.
Yes...once...it was dark and my front door was open and the heavy screen door closed and a girl was standing there in dark pioneer clothing...I was walking past the door and stopped about 6 feet from it because she startled me...I asked her what she wanted and she just stood there. Then she just walked away and I ran to the door and couldn't see anyone anywhere.
I am shooting my nieces wedding at a haunted lodge in CA this summer...cool huh? I am spending two nights there!!!
Oh my gosh!! Were you scared at all, or was it like a calm feeling? How old was she would you say?
And ooh! That's awesome! I bet you'll get some incredible photos.
Nope. I don't believe in ghosts.
What do you think people are seeing when they report seeing them?
Yay for the link to empower!
. . . yeah, a few encounters. Well, more than a few, but none recent. Mostly I hear, rather than see -- sometimes I'll be alerted to a presence through a sound, and one of my more visually oriented friends confirms that they see something. Often I've heard animals, rather than humans, but other people don't hear them.
Only one poltergeist, that I'm aware of -- she wreaked havoc on the lighting system in the theatre we were working in, 'til a friend and I sat down and tried to sort her out . . . it was freaky, and frustrating. Once we had an entire power outage -- except for one, green light that shone on the 'forest' and was on the same circuit and channel as lights that went out (temporarily, mind you); electronically weird. To add to the creepiness, we were doing "A Midsummer Night's Dream" . . .
Oh wow!! Maybe she wanted to put in her own lighting design? lol, creeepy though.

okay i've had maybe one experience and i don't think it was a ghost.
when my father and his three sisters were younger they would see this big black thing. my aunt lisa is still chased by it in her dreams in their old neighborhood in brooklyn under the train. my aunt mary sees it randomly every time she turns a corner in her house just standing there. my aunt connie used to see it when she was younger standing and staring at her, leaning on her tv in her room, and then later in life it used to peak in on her when she was asleep in her house and she would get the feeling of death.
and my father. my father claims it used to hold him down when he was a child.
it was a big black thing, no face, a large fedora brim hat, a long black overcoat and very large square shoulders. to me, i think it had to have been a demon.
when i was about 11 or 12 i saw it. as far as i know my other cousins never saw it (my fathers sisters kids), so i think me seeing it had to be a fluke, because a lot of bad things were going on with my father, and i don't think that "ghost" represents anything good or brings anything good to the table, so it must have been just hanging around my father.
i was in my parents bedroom laying down on their bed and it was about 9 or 10 and it was completely dark in the room, and the closest which i was facing on the bed was even darker. and i saw that thing (and of course i didn't know at the time that my father and his sisters were plagued by it) and i just stared at it. it had no feet, and yet it was jumping left and right and forwards and backwards. i remember being too scared to move.
and then finally i got the courage to get up and run and go tell my father but before i could even tell him what it was he said that he knew, and he sees it too, and he got out his bible and went in there and like, did a prayer, opened up to a certain verse in revelations, said that this is what was waiting for it, and i never saw it again.
i don't know if he has.
i think it may have been a generational curse or something, and the curse stopped with my fathers and aunts generation, but me seeing it was an accident since i was in the midsts of all the bad stuff that was going on.
Oh my God!! That's so scary!!! It reminds me of the reapers from Dead Like Me, though. Really reminiscent. You should check it out if you don't think it would be too freaky.

btw the reason i say "MAYBE" one experience is because my mother told me that when i was young i used to giggle and laugh at nothing, and my mother would see the silhouette of her father (he died when i was like, a month old).
Oh wow!! That's awesome. I think that's what's going on with my son. I think he's been seeing my Mom.
i've never actually seen a ghost, but i definitely believe in them.
and this may just have been me being paranoid and slightly crazy, but i think there may have been an evil presence in my house last year. (that sounds so ridiculous, but i don't know how else to explain it). i was absolutely terrified of being home alone. i would have panic attacks at the slightest noise. for a while, i had myself convinced that there was someone living in our attic. i just always felt like there was someone else there. and then it just kind of gradually went away. i can't remember when it stopped, but now i'm completely fine with being alone.
That's totally happened to me. I believe very much that good and bad energies exist all over the world, and its abot getting into an energy that is positive. I'm glad that your poltergeist or spirit decided to move on.
I had just one, and I am not sure if it was a ghost.
Set the scene: My parents were getting seperated and my mum was depressed.
So one night I was asleep, and I woke up and I was sitting in a doctors surgery. And everything was dream like and hazey, I looked up and standing before me,absolutely cleary was my grandma (who had died 4 years previously). She was so clear, and everything was so hazy around us. She said really urgently "Meagan, I have something to tell you" and then I woke up.
My grandma passed away after suffering for alzhimers. She couldn't recognise me when she passed away. But that night my mum had a break down.
Apparently my mum was visited my her dad when he passed away as well. But I am not sure how much I believe about it all!
POST: my mum is fine now.
Oh wow. That's incredible. *hugs* I'm glad your Moms doing better now.
