The Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas (shaped like an Egyptian Pyramid) is 36 stories tall, required more than 150,000 cubic yards of concrete, six thousand construction workers and 18 months to build. It takes a specially designed window washing device 64 hours to clean the sides of the pyramid, which is covered by 13 acres of glass. The Luxor atrium is the world's largest and could comfortably hold nine Boeing 747 airplanes.

I went to Vegas earlier this year and we stayed in the pyramid. It's actually quite nice in the rooms, though if we didn't have a corner room protected by the "Inclinator" bay, the noise from the casino floor might have been a problem.

The inclinators, as they call them, were also custom designed for the Luxor, and take you up at an angle along the four corners of the pyramid. Our room was low enough we didn't need to take them, but we went for a ride towards the top anyway, just to see. Riding them made us kind of queezy.

It's about mid-range price-wise of strip hotels, maybe a little on the low end. We got in on a special of around $100 a night.

The inclinators always freak me out in that hotel

After I read your comment I was curious about that, too. The Great Pyramid at Giza was 145.75 meters or 481 feet high when it was first constructed, and has apparently lost 10 meters or 30 feet off that in the intervening centuries. At the bottom it measures 229 meters or 751 feet in length on each side.

The Luxor hotel is 350 feet or 106.68 meters tall and the bottom sides are 646 feet or 196.9 meters long.

So looks like Giza is still the winner. Thank you Google!

The fountains outside the Bellagio hotel/casino in Vegas (famously seen in the new Ocean's 11 among other places) have a couple hundred jets capable of pushing water 24 stories into the air. Each is programmed to move independently and choreographed to music and can be lit by means of fiber-optics. The shows are constantly monitored to be shut down in case the volatile Nevada winds get too high. With the maximum amount of water in the air equaling the volume of a swimming pool, high winds would leave a lot of the spectators quite unhappy.

I learned all this on a recent viewing of a show called "How Does it Work?" or something like that.

I can't substantiate these with multiple sources, but...

The "sky beam" atop the Luxor - reportedly the most powerful light in the world - shoots up from the pyramid's peak at night. It can be seen from an airplane on a clear night from 250 miles away, and it attracts a flurry of bats who feed on the insects drawn to it.

The "sky beam" is so powerful that austronauts on Space Shuttle could see it; it is so bright that 10 miles above it one can use its light to read a newspaper.
