[mood |confusedconfused]
[music |Go, Diego, Go!]

Despite the fact that federal spending on the drug war increased from $1.65 billion in 1982 to $17.7 billion in 1999, more than half of the students in the United States in 1999 tried an illegal drug before they graduated from high school. Additionally, 65% have tried cigarettes by 12th grade and 35% are current smokers, and 62% of twelfth graders and 25% of 8th graders in 1999 report having been drunk at least once.

(( Looks like a 1999 report, so it's 8 years old, but the most recent info I could find, unless you can find more recent? :) ))

I wonder into whose pockets this "drug war" money really goes.

17.7 billion, hey? And they can't keep illegal drugs from coming into America? They can't keep illegal immigrants from coming in either...

How in hell do they expect to keep terrorists, nuclear materials, explosives, etc out??? (I read once in the Christian Science Monitor that 42 suitcase nuclear bombs are missing from Russia's inventory.)

They don't expect too.

I think in large part they want them to come here so that there can be attacks and we'll have more excuses to war monger. Grr.

I've seen that video before, but it's weirder the more time goes on. Whooooaaaaa....

And yeah...I'm in the 12th grade, and those stats seem about right.

*nod* They seemed about right from what I can remember too, but I'm a bit older then you. I think these might be holding pretty form, give or take a percentage or two.

I'm betting if anything the statistics are even worse now, especially considering all the people incarcerated for minor drug offenses. The whole paradigm of "The War on Drugs" is flawed. Time to adopt the Dutch model and be realistic.

And those poodles will give me nightmares. That crap isn't natural.

How they do things over there I think is what this poster meant.

I could be wrong, but from what I understand the Dutch are just much more relaxed about the whole thing. They have free needle exchange programs and even safe places for hard core addicts to do their drugs. They try to treat the addiction as a disease instead of a crime. And marijuana is totally decriminilized.

Yeah, the whole weed thing is stupid, but that's the only real drug I've done, besides pain pills when I'm hurting,or the whipits I did once in college. lol
